INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Kiniska- the coups look great! I know what you mean about waste!! I'm trying to reuse as much as possible. My DH isn't as eager as I am, he thinks it harder to do!! No vision!!!!

Thank you. I will definitely pay careful attention. I have a friend going as well who is more experienced than I am. In fact, since I have to work she may be picking out my hens for me. :)

Any advice on dealing with NRs or where I can find some female chicks of a docile and friendly breed?

Welcome cdgualtieri aka Deanna to our Indiana Thread!
Nice to hear from you again, EmSteele!

Kiniska~ Very productive things going on at your place . . . New baby goat aka Kid and power-building creative coops!

I AM SO FRUSTRATED! Just had a visit from the county inspector. A neighbor complained that we were building a chicken coop and she doesn't want chickens near her house.

He said we can't have them because our property is not zoned Ag.

I am so bummed. I can re-home them easy enough, but that is not the point. We raised them from day old chicks and we really don't want to get rid of them.

I have 4 very sad children!!!!
Fight it! There's a lot of good info here:

Please, don't let them bully you! You have the right to own a few birds, Indianapolis allows it! Tell them its NOT fair! If the hub of our STATE allows it, why are they not keeping up with Indianapolis?!? I would tell them, also, I want my children to learn basic skills of farming and sustainability too!

My first post in BYC! I'm Deanna. I'm from Rochester, indiana, which is about 90 minutes north of Indy. I don't have any chickens yet, but hopefully we will this weekend after a local swap meet. I just built our coop today, big enough for about 4 hens. We are very excited, but its all still new to us. :)
