Were they shipped eggs? That can be tricky. What kind of incubator are you using?
No I got them from my peking. Im using farm inovatators. I was doing good had two pip and one was doing real good and then in the morning the egg was a little black. All of eggs should promise and had movement. I got three due next week that started in it but I switched it to my brisnea mini I just got.

Well I have 1/4 of the house packed up, my walls are bare!! and the nic-nac's are packed away, still got LOTS to do but I will have the house packed before we even get in the house at this rate!! Drove by ( just cause ) and junk cars are still there and all the trash out back and a VERY large pile of aluminum cans just inside the woods re still there, they can leave all those cans if they like... lol $$$$$ 10 days till the 3rd...........

Am missing BA hen. Just gone... no signs of foul play, just gone. Been gone for 5 days now.
Ransom is feeling better and Ridgett has not had any "fainting" spells for a week, so the Salt did the trick... go figure, now to get the weight back on her and she will be good as new. O her hooves have passed inspection finally!!!!

Our GP that has been suffering from depression for the past 2 years, we found a way to get him happy again!!!! ......... Take him for a car ride and share chicken strips and munchers with him.. Keeps him happy for a whole week!!!! He plays, he is eating normal and gaining weight. He goes to the vet for his yearly's in 2 weeks, I cant wait to see the look on the vets face, he wanted to put him on pills.

I have people wanting me to hatch them some chicks and they are making it very hard not to dig out the incubator and plug it in!!!!

BUT I just keep slapping my hands and telling myself NO NO!!!! I have 10 DZ eggs I have to take to the auction this weekend not selling too good right now, don't know why??? Rockville most times goes high on eggs so might get a little bit out of it.
DH has been driving me nuts with threatening me with getting chicks from RK. and he called me from TSC and said they had a boat load of bantam chicks, 2 troughs of them and they were crowed!! They were Assorted breeds. He said Silkie and Seabrights ( silver and gold ) for sure, couldn't tell the rest.
Well thats all my updates for now. Hope everyone has a great day and stay dry

Sorry to hear about the missing hen. Great news on the other critters! I am full swing on hatching, But only to fill orders from my wait list. I plan to wrap it up earlier this year too..(famous last words lol)
If you think about it, can you watch the cattle prices at rockville? I would really appreciate it. My neighbor and I were discussing calves, and I think he is planning to go over there.

@jchny2000 Oh, I hope you are mistaken about Huey...

In happier news, we both became grandma's to a bunch of lavender Orp chicks in the last day, still 4 more eggs left to hatch. All healthy and darling and super fluffy! Roadrunner has done well with my girls.

WTG Roadrunner!! His brother is a real ladies man too

Quote: Thanks! I like the Hampshires personality a lot, my boar, Oreo is a big baby. DoubleStuff the sow is too, but she wants to jump up on you! She is a bit too big for that, lol. The little berkshire sow is coming around really well now. She was my most "nervous" pig. So far she is doing great with the babies.

Babies are so precious! Chicken math, ugh! I set around 90 eggs this week, one incubator is FULL, #2 has 2 trays in it. Got our first guinea egg too! I am doing all waterfowl in one cabinet, and regular poultry in the other.

So getting frustrated with hatching. I had 1 of 8 make it. all because I helped this one out
Its tough. I am fighting with humidity as usual, had some quail stuck in the shell. That's a challenge getting them out.

Quote: Brinsea should give you a better hatch rate. I used foam incubators the first year, and really struggled to get good hatches. When I finally got the sportsman cabinet, my first test hatch was pekin. I set 60 some eggs and they ALL hatched! Needless to say we sold a lot of ducklings that year.

Nearly impossible to get a picture of all 7 piglets! This was the best picture out of all on them.

They are already running all over the livestock trailer, lol. Next sow is due in less than a month, she is an Old spot. Will be Hamp/Spot crosses.

@jchny2000

How do you find buyers for your piglets and chicks?
Thats a good question to ask. And a good lesson for folks that's selling chicks they hatch also. The internet and social networks have their place. It does allow us to connect and meet some awesome people we would never had found otherwise. Sadly there are some sick people that will take advantage of the average persons trust. Everyone that sells extra chickens or chicks needs to consider personal safety in any transactions. Meet away from your home if you can.
Locally, folks know me, and what I keep. From that point, I post on a few livestock groups on Facebook. Last choice, I do not like is Craigslist, but I will post on it if I have to move animals out, mostly before winter. No waits or holds period. 9 out of 10 folks do not show up or follow through.
I have a big waiting list for piglets. I avoid forums for sales, just local folks normally, and waiting lists. There is just not many of us raising hogs locally. No clue why either, I really enjoy keeping them. If they are fed properly and given fermented feed they don't "stink" like most folks expect. Even with the mud wallers they create its just the matter of what feeds they eat to keep odors down. I feed a lot of hay to our hogs too.
Chickens, other poultry and waterfowl I offer from our thread and facebook. I am very cautious with outside contacts aside from our thread. I've not had any issues ever, but the possibility is there.Just being realistic, you don't know what to expect unless you've known a person and spoken often.. I am just very cautious in my contacts with strangers. I worked in law enforcement, myself and was married to a cop for 13 years, saw a lot of scary weird stuff. I really didn't realize someone would do ..You just learn to be careful in unknown "meet ups" in general.
For me, I have to meet up at my home, impossible to leave due to my parents care. I am pretty careful who comes here. My point is, be safe and think about what can happen. Probably won't.be an issue. But I am not risking it.

While the final results are not in, my screwed-up incubation did yield some darling healthy chicks--and a lot that didn't make it to hatch. Some are still alive in the shell and it's Day 25, so if they pip internally, I'll help them out. I can't tell much with the Bielefelders I have left.

SO, I have six 50% English Orpingtons in lavender ready to go--no reservations on those (I think!!). They have a very nice and diverse mix of genetics.

AND 2 male Bielefelders if someone wants to buy them for meat. I can attest to the fact that they put on meat faster than other dual purpose breeds I've had, even though they don't look bigger, there's more breast and leg meat for sure and you don't have to wait forever to get it. The male Bieles will be very inexpensive.

PM me if you're interested. I'm near Zionsville and Whitestown.

I have more due over the coming weeks that were less messed up than this first hatch. They were not subjected to excess heat at all, but it's been a little cooler than I'd like. I think I'm going to have to send in my bator for service at Brinsea, too, because it wasn't this hard to get it to hold 99-100 last year. It's a rotten time to have problems, because God only knows how long I'd be without it, and my backup that I use for hatching and initial drying is just an Eco 20.

I'll hopefully have chocolates/cuckoos due later this month, too!
