INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Caught all of my Muscovy hens finally, and rounded them all up into a Tractor. Putting my best Lavender drake in with them.
Peafowls new house is nearly completed. Hoping to paint tomorrow, and cover with hardware cloth... and then move them in! If I can't find cheap paint we will just cover as is, and be done. Last big roundup is my Guineas! Thats going to be a chore for sure. They all still roost in the old falling down coop so am hoping To pen them in at night. and just pluck them off the roosts.

Happy Easter Everyone!

Yes.....Happy Easter everyone. Am taking advantage of this nice start to the day to till inside the outdoor runs. (1) 10'x10' and one 10' x 20' And now have moved on to burying some old corrugated panels I had around the perimeter of the runs. Haven't had any issues with " tunnel-ins " from Fox or Coyote yet, in fact no sign of digging whatsoever but better safe than sorry as we do have both in the area. Pecker heads are sure enjoying the free ranging.....lol

@chick rookie Bummer about your truck, but glad the house wasn't broken into. I have a 9 mm, too, from my single days, but now that we have a big dog that sounds off I sure hope we never need it. I'm the only one who shoots. DH was in the Navy for 12 years but firearm training is totally optional for most sailors.

A big hat's off to DH. Yesterday he bumped out the garden and chicken yard 6 more feet, fenced it all, and moved the used coop. Hershey, Cocoa, and Cleo are back outside (choc cuckoo, solid choc, and full black English Orps). Hershey and Cocoa are from @Junaid. Cleo came from a teacher via Papa's out west. Cleo's chicks will be sex-linked by color. Hopefully my hatch due 3/31 will come out better. It really does kill to go just a few degrees too high. My lavs are really tough! Excellent layers, too. I have 8 hens and pullets and we get 6-8 eggs every day.

I also re-trimmed a bunch of my breeders to cut down on infertile eggs. Need to Dremel the spurs on Cogburn and Placido, my JO roo. They would be deadly if mean, but both are really good roos.

Love the Easter pic @Faraday40 ! The chicks posed perfectly! I am planning on doing some pics today with chicks that hatched 2 days ago. They are all mixes from my flock.

Mixes that I hatched out last month are getting really pretty. I did two BLRW crossed with either Marans, O.E. or a white rooster that I couldn't figure out what he was and they are gorgeous so far! Also did Sumatra mix and Ayam Cemani x Marans mix. This time I got some of my EE eggs in there too.

Even though I am extremely down on hens right now, I have like 4 dozen chicks of various ages. They all enjoyed the sunshine yesterday. Working today...

so everyone had to stay inside or in their pens. The adults are not thrilled to be kept in a small area now but I refuse to lose anymore to predators.

Anyway, HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!

I forgot to add in the last post, I lost one of my BLRW hens Friday night. She was laying by the nest boxes with no injury that I could see, just looked peacefully asleep.

I decided to investigate and did my own necropsy. I found tumors and I am kind of not surprised. She was two years old and always laid a pointy, torpedo-like egg that usually had a blood spot in it. I am surprised though that she looked healthy otherwise and never showed any signs of slowing down. Her sister is sad and doesn't seem to know what to think. That break my heart!

I saved part of the tract with a few tumors. I haven't decided if I want to get them tested or not. I'm leaning towards not. I'm glad she died peacefully instead of in the mouth of a dog or coyote.
