INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

We actually don't use either. Wade builds and uses Warre hives. He's a hands off, let the girls do their thing, kind of beekeeper. I'm a very very hands off, let Wade do his thing type of beekeeper.
@racinchickins

That's good to hear. I'm a TF type myself and foundationless. We just have the 1 tbh but hubby is building a long Lang that we'll use foundationless in.

I want them building their own comb and don't like using even the wax foundations as the beeswax is so toxic with all the treatments mixed together from all the many hive's wax that is melted together to form the foundations. I was so disappointed when I learned how toxic beeswax is from conventional hives. Made me not want to use any beeswax products unless they're from my own TF hives or someone else's TF hives that I know.

Wade may be interested to see this report...this gal decided to have her wax lab tested for toxicity after using tbh for 2 years to see how it rated. Fantastic lab results and the first I've ever seen (though I imagine there are more out there. Everything was ND (Not Detectable)

Here's a link:

From: http://www.goldstarhoneybees.com/sh...w to get bees for your Gold Star top bar hive

Also noticed (too late because I didn't know about them) that they sell and ship TF packages with naturally mated queens that were raised on small cell. If I had known about them I may have tried one of theirs for this tbh. They're out of Maine and these are from hives that have wintered there so sounds like it could be good genetics and also acclimated to be hardy in our winters.

Hi all. Not sure if it's OK to post this here, but iI think so. If not, i am sorry. I am located near crawfordsville, in. I have some things Iam going to have to sell or trade (under protest) ,lol, as soon as possible.

2 dark throated red golden pheasant hens, hatched last spring so should lay this year

2 muscovy hens, not sure on age, haven't had them long but they don't appear old or anything. I love these docile gals but I mostly free range and my nbrs, aka my brothers, don't like it BC they keep coming in their yards to visit. My other ducks stay closer to home and I don't think the hens would like being penned while the others get to range freely

I am looking for:
Young chicken hens (I traded several of mine off to a guy for a supposedly non aggressiverRoyal Palm Tom turkey

Oops, hit reply button b4 Iwas finished.
Wanted, continued:

Anyway, old Tom attacked me and had to take him to sale barn aASAP. Lost my rear money wise and lost several of my soon to b laying hens too,,ripped off but live and learn and MY conscience is clear..

Sapphires any age, created cream legbars, brown Leghorns, polish, any unusual breeds, or will sell my things outright or consider any trades. Thanks so much for looking. PM me if interested.

Your offers make me really wish I had money.

My flock may or may not have M.g. but you're welcome to any of my chickens (listed the rehome-ables on a previous page). I have two golden pheasants (male cinnamon, yellow hen), two female Coturnix quail, and one lone MW turkey tom, all of whom could stand to have some more company.

I have no fewer than 25 laying hens, and you're welcome to the vast majority. Included are Wyandottes, Brahmas (including some gold-penciled hens), Cochin, lots of blue and green layers, Welsummers, and plenty more. I have no white egg layers (the Breda hen lays cream eggs, and the white Leghorn isn't laying yet), so mixed breeds will all lay brown or green. I have oodles of free mixed breeds.

I had a very shy but non-aggressive RP tom last fall but gave him to @ellymayRans. She's had a lot of predator problems, so I'm not sure if he's still there or if he's available for purchase in any case. I'm not sure what jerk out there is breeding mean Palms, but he needs to be drug out into the street and shot. I don't see why anyone would want to breed an aggressive nature into any bird--let alone a turkey, which is capable of inflicting a lot of harm to a person. I've heard a number of other people complain about ferocious Palms--and pretty much all of these people swear off ever owning these lovely birds again. It's just so sad.

Two of my 9 hens have gone broody. I'm not happy about that, but we've got them on hatching eggs, so hopefully soon, they'll be back at their jobs!

This weekend, one of the broody hens accidentally got separated from her clutch--FOR FOUR HOURS!!! Her clutch was eleven days old. The eggs were not warm at all by the time she got back on them. Does anybody have an experience like this that has a happy ending?
Not quite, but have had power outage for several hours, and still had hatches from that.

I am so leery of being stung. My arm is still swelled from a hornet sting a week ago. Thats honestly the only thing holding me back!
we should be having our first beehive going within a month - its mainly DWs project, but i'll be doing some bee stuff too
Awesome news!

Perfectly fine to post. If we openly post pricing tho BYC wants it listed on the buy, sell trade section. You did exactly what they prefer, ask folks to PM.

Another post from Debbie Downer...
Took Tweedy to the vet yesterday. She had been going down hill for a week while I had pneumonia. Her comb had been getting floppy, she had slowed down, and her stomach felt full of fluid (I could compare the feel to my former RIR Nene who had congestive heart failure). He said he felt a large mass/tumor. I held her while he put her to sleep. I told my vet that just when I conclude that the succession of chicken deaths this year must be from CRD, then Tweedy comes down with something totally different. He said that most chicken deaths involve more than one cause—just like Screech's necropsy revealed several issues. I now have three chickens, and it is depressing, but I feel more sorry for them seeing their flock mates disappear one by one. My remaining three seem healthy, and I'm hoping they will remain that way.

She'll be in chicken heaven with her buddies now.

I've noticed similar down swings in health when a flock member dies. Major Tom is just the most recent and vivid example. He's sounding worse and worse every day without his poults.

Definitely watch Lacey now. My first SLW had a very difficult time adjusting when I rehomed a bunch of her original flock mates.
