INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

sorry about cuddles Faraday, but the new ones sure are cute.
So sitting here trying to find out where my goslings are, why do the post office bother with tracking numbers if they don't update apparently they are still in san jose California. Only hope is that they are in Evansville as the other place that ships to our local post office doesn't have them. Very very nerve wracking.
Its probably by air, so hopefully you will get an update by morning. My geese also came from CA and were here in 2 days from Meyer, its where my Embden came from.

All caught up on the many many posts I had fallen behind in reading.

lots of little critters here for the children to play with and learn about. One of our goats kidded, and the cat had kittens. Spring time is just so perfect for new animals.
I bet they are loving the bables! Its my favorite part of spring too.

Thanks ellymayRans I hate it, waited to call Metzer to get a tracking number which the post office wanted, which hasn't updated since they were in California.

When was the ship date?

@jchny2000

I finally got the little Buckeye chicken nuggets banded today so I can keep track of who's who. No photos yet.

All... Chick Bands
Just in case anyone is looking for GREAT chick bands, I've been using these from Foy's. The first time you buy you purchase a pack in the size you want that has an applicator with it and bands in multi-colors. You roll a band up on the wide part of the applicator, place their toes and as much of the foot as you can fit into the wide part of the applicator, then just roll the band on. They're small enough that you can stack more than one color if needed to differentiate chicks. And I like that they aren't rigid - they have some stretch and hopefully won't hurt the leg if they got caught on something. [Bands come in 5 colors. After you have the applicator, you just purchase bags of the individual colors in whatever size you need.)

My chicks are 2 weeks old on Friday; I used the size 6 on them. Another person I know puts them on right after hatch and dried and uses the 4.5 at that age. I always like bands to be a bit loose, and I didn't put them on at hatch. The size 6 are working fine.

I do not roll them off and reuse....I find it less stress on the leg to just cut them off when they outgrow them and I need to apply a larger size.

My SFH chicks have the size 7 on (think I put those on at about 3.5 weeks). They probably need to go up to a size 9 before too long.

That music is hilarious!!!! Made me laugh just listening to the music!

What kind of treats did you use to get them to do that?
I sometimes use mealworms or about 1/2 slice of bread broken up between them. Nothing much really. The chicks were hatched here so know us well. Once one catches on, the rest follow. It only took a few days for them to get it down. What I didn't record is what happens when I move the tractor to a new area of the yard. A few feet away is no big deal, but when it gets moved a longer distance, the chicks run to the old spot first. They start running in circles & bump into one another in confusion until the tractor is finally spotted.

It's very amusing.

Livestock such as Alpaca, goats, hogs, horses, pigs, cows, sheep etc are welcome too!
Adult birds are absolutely ok too! Between my slow internet and old cell phone I am really fighting with it to share new pictures here too.
Please feel free to post non related livestock, waterfowl and poultry questions, share photos and experiences. Personal stuff... life events is OK as long as its "family friendly" and within BYC guidelines. We have a large group of friends here, and some children also. Always welcome folks seeking information or looking for more local contacts.
We are also here for each other for times of frustration, needing to sound off! Searching for a breed of birds. Relocating and moving. Kids are graduating, getting married, grand babies born or just a great day to share with others. I want our thread to be fun and connected, open for fair discussion. And most of all, respectful of other folks opinions. Its ok to agree to disagree, and move on.

I have a black australorp, and an ISA brown, also either a barred rock or a buff orpington. Have to have the kids decide between the two. Our coop just won't be big enough after we move next year. Had to get the minimum when I got chicks to replace our old hens. I would love for them to go to a new home. Got them March 1st and they were a day or two? Old.

oops sorry I forgot to quote this!

Awesome video Faraday40
