INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Just in case any Orpington folks aren't overrun with cockerels, I have them in blue, black, black split to lavender, a recessive white, and a chocolate. If anyone can use one, pm me. I'll be culling by next Thursday.

My Dorking are doing well. They do have short legs for their body size. Apparently they are awesome table birds, so when the time comes we won't waste the meat.

Picture overload pair of sebbies and a pair of Super Africans. we don't have names yet but hubby nicknamed his SA girl Chewy because first day she was obsessed with the little SA boys back claw tried to tug it off.......

we may have found a home for him but are waiting to hear back. I don't think I would like to have him cooked up! he really is a sweet boy if you pick him up, but he does boss around my other hens... although I will say he is a very good guardian. we got him off a breeder hoping he'd be a pullet but he wasn't. thank you for your help!

Sending some good rehoming vibes to you!

I've always hated the notion of my rehomed boys becoming soup, too

I took the 5 pea eggs my Peahen was brooding. Its been 2 weeks ish and last year by week 3 my male started wandering so i took them when she got off yesterday morning. I see veining but they all appear to be blobs. No noticeable movement or chicks. ?? Not sure what to think about that. I put them in a bator. Give them a week and candle again to be sure before pitching them.

Still waiting for my 2 to start hatching. 1 due tomorrow the other Monday.

Ive had 5 AMs hatch with the 6th external pip. So far 3 lavender 2 black (cuckoo?)

Shocked to have my large drake fly over my head from Neighbors all the way to the backside of our house. A good 100 yards...followed by 2 of the new girls.

The chocolate duck is sitting on the nest i moved very happily. I pulled some of the eggs because she wasn't able to cover them all. So she has 19. I'll be interested to see how she does.

Some cute pictures of the babies today! :love I can't help it, they're so precious!

Callette the Silver Gray Dorking. :love Those of you that remember my last group of chicks might find Callette familiar--she's the spitting image, in both looks and personality, of my Elda at this age :love

Meanwhile, Rooska the Lavender Orpington just makes herself right at home when I pick her up :love

Tragic news on the urban homestead strikes again.

Turned the littles out for a bit of supervised playtime this afternoon and noticed one of the three BBW turkey poults had swollen hock joints, which never ends well. Picked him up and cuddled for a little while, and DH asked e to come in and help him put an allergy-proof zip-up mattress cover on one of the kids' beds. Came back out and realized Major Tom had stomped one of the other two BBW poults to death trying to mate with it. So yeah, can't shake the feeling I've gone from six turkeys to three because if I can't trust Major with littles, I can't keep him after all. I've never heard of a tom doing that before.

Aw, sorry. That's rough.
