INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

@jchny2000

I did a little rearranging in the chick-safe pen in the barn today.  When I was in there I sat on the floor and had 6 Four-Week-Old Buckeyes climbing all over me.  One even went up on my shoulder.

Such fun little birdies!

I need to get some updated photos of the chicken children :)
How fun!! I need to try this!

Mandy convinced me to give hatching eggs another try. I love my silver grey Dorkings so I'm trying to hatch some more. Fingers crossed that a few make it. I had no idea ahead of time that color is autosexing, BONUS!!

Yay!! :weee I'm glad you found a way to add more to your flock! Fingers crossed for the rest of the eggs!

And autosexing, yes, but not to the extent of Legbars or Bieles, where the males and females look quite different. Male Silver Gray Dorkings have less clear markings on their heads, females more clear. Some SGD lines are easier than others to sex at hatch, but generally that's how it goes. By 2-3 weeks old, they're easy to tell by their feathering, so if any aren't easy to tell from hatch, they'll be obvious by then.

This is my boy, Donnie, and one of my girls, Callette, both day-old; Don has the pinkish band - notice his eye stripe is smaller. His head marking is slightly different as well, but it wasn't as obvious in person as the eye line.

This one shows the tops of their heads--not so easy to tell from this angle. Donnie is all the way on the right:

Sorry, you probably know all this by now. I'm just happy to share the joy of Dorkings! :D
