INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Thanks for the link! I'm going to make one or two for summer coops and then try to make/alter one to see if I could make it work during winter.

I've been on CL, everything I find is to large to transport or out of my price range. I'm gonna take my chances on a pre fab. I can reinforce/weather proof it as needed. I've read about people using metal storage sheds but I'd be scared the poor birds would freeze in it. I have till spring to decide.

There's so many cool ideas out there. I am a huge fan of repurposing stuff so I get excited building new things

you're welcome! i plan to use concrete form stakes to "tie down" a couple for hay storage. these will be great summer meatie coops. One person on here had used straw bales around them and it was working out well to block the drafts & cold.

So far i want Australoupe, Rhode Island Red a Deleware.

When it comes to wood, I'm by no means handy with a hammer. I just priced a local coop and the guy wants 1000$, then there's converting a shed or going with a a prefab.

This looks cheap as heck but I'm hoping it can be strengthened. Any idea?

The easiest way is to buy a used shed and make it into a coop. A coop is not difficult at all to build you can use pretty much anything and turn it into a chicken coop.

I love re- purpose things. Just about everything I build is used items. My first coop re claimed wood, my chicken tractor re claimed 2x4's and old used fencing, my automatic door is mostly made up of things i had already laying around. And right now im working on another coop that is ALL made of used wooden pallets. The possibilities is endless when it comes to using reclaimed items.

So I've been reading mixed opinions on direction the fan should be blowing in a little giant incubator. I figured since I have the LG already as well as an old computer I can steal the fan from, why not give it a try until the new incubator arrives. But when I install the fan, I was under the impression the fan should blow away from the eggs, however I am also ready that it should blow down towards the eggs. Anyone have a suggestion?

I think I remember reading it should suck air from above the water area and draw that air over the eggs, but I'm not sure which book it was in and I've never hatched eggs. Maybe someone else can help too.

You just use the fan for air circulation. You dont make it blow right on the eggs but above them.
