INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Hoping to be on our thread more since fall is here. Less daylight forces me indoors more, and parent care has sure increased lately. Ugh I cannot remember when I washed windows last! I kept very few chickens just enough to give us eggs daily. I eat a whole lotta chicken eggs, DH loves duck eggs too. We will be processing all quail soon and stop keeping them until spring. I will just purchase hatching eggs next year, maybe, and start over. We are keeping very few chickens, my peacock, guineas, ducks, geese.. Cows and Goats next year for sure.

Dad and I have worked out a new daily schedule for mom's care. She fell again on Monday, nothing broken fortunately but her foot is bruised. Seeking information on home care assistance now. She just has little ability to walk or support herself on her legs anymore. Its causing her to see more Drs and have more appointments to approve home health care, ugh. I understand why, but its sure hard on mom having to go every weekday, somewhere. Dialysis 3x a week.. Tues/Thurs for Doctors. Transferring from car to wheelchair scares her. Me too, I can lift her but every fall I fear broken bones. I just can't, won't consider a nursing home until we have no other options left. Moms a "shut-in" She is very timid around strangers, large groups especially. Frightens easily. I feel it will only cause her health to fail much faster. I want my parents to have quality of life 100% and I will ensure it happens for them.

Anyone looking for a nice rooster?....I have a Sumatra that's a good looking guy and seems well behaved, he will be a year old in late March or early April, PM me if interested. Seven of 11 chicks from this Spring turned out to be....roosters

Back in July I gave into my 10yr olds request (plea) for a lionhead

!! I adore her and then of course the 7 yr old was jealous and I came across a family rehoming another. So we made the trip and now both boys have their very own but as with most kids I believe mom is taking care of them and loving them to death! They are now free in the house and litter trained!

Our dog and cat are great with them and 1 of the bunnies is quite fond of the cat!

All has been well here and not a single loss since penning all the birds. However I've been so depressed about it and especially the Peas

Hi! I'm in Shelbyville! We got our first birds last spring and have grown tremendously since! We have road Island reds, barred rock, americanus, buff Orphington's. we have two leghorns which one is a rooster, that came from my nieces class! They got to watch eggs hatch into chickens and asked if I would take them once they did so.

Ok. Last call. 6 month old buff and buff/ barred rock layers for sale. Organic non gmo feed and free ranged. They re so much fun, but I am overrun with sggs and need to decrease the flock.

I hate to do it but the ones left will go to freezer camp next week.
I highly recommend these. They are great layers, beautiful, and have a wonderful disposition. I call them my "Sweetness" birds. That was the name of my first hen of that mix.

Thanks! She has a bruise on her foot, but ok otherwise..
As always, any roosters are welcome back here. I am sorry to hear so many of your chicks turned out to be roosters. Unfortunately, I can only guess at their sex, and why I sell so cheap. Many of the new breeds I had last fall had me very off base on sexing chicks.
Just trying to figure out how to join the Indiana forum!

Agreed, it bothers me a lot. No life for them all being confined, and makes me very uneasy too. I free range each coop on rotation daily. RIR were out today, Wyandottes get a turn tomorrow. I miss seeing my yard dotted with chickens. Don't miss the losses from predators.

Welcome to BYC and our thread!

Quote: I hope someone can take them. I have to downsize a lot more here or I would myself.
