INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

if that does not work perhaps a concrete paver or two from walmart or other big box store when they are on close out this fall.
I would have to level the coop ground to use pavers or I will end up tripping over the edges. Still see the water level rising in the pavers though. I think if it was completely covered with concrete it will raise the level higher than the outside and there will be no seepage either.

Ahhhh! Ok, about 1/2 hour ago I went out between the rain.... let the dog run around, checked on the 4 week olds... gave them some FF for the night THEN came the HAIL! I was stooped over putting it inside and noticed feet sticking UP from the pile of chicks... they were sooo scared of the storm they just piled in a corner. I stuck my hand into the pile and spread them out checking for a lifeless body. All were ok, but I had to run in hail with the dog to the house. Sure stings when it hits your thigh!
lol... Mass panic over the noise. We have been fortunate not to have hail as yet. Sure raining hard enough earlier to make my drive home difficult.

They act like they're mugging for the camera! Love the extra feet on the right-hand one.

My quote didn't go with my post!

EllieMae, there is a show in Columbus May 4; that's the last one in Indiana until September. The best way to learn is just to do it; you'll find that other exhibitors are great at answering questions and giving advice. The Marans aren't difficult to get ready to show--a bath and nail trims a couple of days before, last minute touch-ups the morning of the show--wiping off the poop that they've invariably waded through, vaseline or oil on beaks, feet, legs, comb, etc., and a mist of pink shine spray. Oh, and be sure that they are the French variety with the leg feathering.
You don't have to have any blood testing done unless you show out of state.
Go for it--more people need to see this great breed. They haven't caught on as quickly around here as in some other areas.

I didn't know TSC had so many issues with their chicks and pasty butt. We had one fatality, I assume from pasty butt, it lived one overnight with us and died the second overnight. We did keep her as clean as we thought necessary. TSC replaced her, no charge. It helped that my daughter was there with me teary-eyed. I'd think that if any chicks have pasty butt it's something that would be outgrown? And if it's strictly a diet thing, hanging on for weeks and weeks, surely it can't be from TSC and must be something wrong with the chick?

Survival of the fittest, don't pass on genes that aren't strong I say. However I am a newb at this, so it's strictly conjecture on my part.

I have been wondering if any of you could tell me if it is possible to save feathers after molting? I make hats and hairpieces and would love to get my hands on rooster tail feathers without having to pay bass pro shop fly fishing prices. My husband laughed so hard when he caught me eyeing the red pheasant at the zoo and saying how cool it would be to get some of its feathers.

oh, I made the fascinator that is my avatar pic. and the feather piece

Hello, Kabhyper1 is it chicken bedtime yet? I am not sure if I wver sent you a message, but my sister-in-law is moving to near the Tri -Lakes area, between Columbia City and Churubusco. Any way she is really looking for some one close by to get info help on how best to start up a small community of chicken for personal and family use. They will move there in the next couple of weeks and she has been trying to find someone as she drives through that area to where she is staying. I am really getting interested in raising chickens, too. She is member recently in BYC. Anyway I was wondering if you might share some of your expertise and all with her.
