Just a couple of my girls hanging out

Hello and good evening to everyone. I'm sad to say, I've come to a point where I have to sell my entire flock. It breaks my heart to do so but with divorce word coming up in my marriage, it's best to find them a good home. If anyone is interested, please feel free to contact. My flock consists of laying hens-have to get back on how many for I lost count :) , three roosters who are friendly non aggressive, and a variety of ducks from Pekin , Muscovy , Cayuga, Blue Swedish, Buff Orpington, White Crested, males and females. I will try to post photos tomorrow.

I am so sorry.

I'm so sorry.

Been there. We'll be praying for you.

I wish I could do more to help out. If you get a buyer from Indy to the Bedford area, I might be able to help in the chicken/duck train because I'm going to that area for Thanksgiving, but otherwise, we're so strapped I couldn't even afford the gas to get up there to hug you.

Oh sorry LocosHuevos :( sometimes a break from some responsibility can help. Maybe sometime in the future you can get back to the chicken life even if it is years down the road.

Storms didn't cause as much damage as it looked when it was raging outside. But now the constant flurries! Glad I winterized the coop Thursday when it was warm. But now the girls are on strike, no eggs for 2 days. I completely cleaned out the coop too, replacing the pine flakes, and the sweet PDZ under the roost. BTW, definitely recommend it. No ammonia smell, and so much cleaner. I can see the girls have played in it too.

@Crafty chick

You got Snow!?!
It's rather cold here, but at least no flurries. Today the kids raked some leaves & we shut off /blew out the outside water line until spring. I can't complain because it normally happens in early Nov/late Oct. 'Tis the season of carrying water buckets!

Sci Fair Update:
DD did the last candling last night. The farmer market eggs are surprising to me. I thought they would do far worse. DH won't be too happy about the high success rate. LOL

Chicken Eggs:
6/6 backyard eggs look good
5/6 of farmer market eggs look good, one was clear
+1 extra egg that was thrown in - but not part of the experiment.

Quail eggs
8/10 backyard eggs look good, 1 is a ?, 1 was clear
7/10 farmer market eggs look good, 1 is ?, 2 were clear
0/10 store eggs developed Only 1 is a ? because the shell is too thick & dark to see anything. I was kind of hoping "something" would develop. They were certainly fertile- just don't know how old.
+ about 4-5 backyard eggs that were added just because we had the extras from the breeder.

It's time to make some brooders! The quail should hatch Tues & the chickens on Thanksgiving. Today we removed the turner & increased the humidity of the quail incubator. I'm so glad we were able to get the eggs started when we did. DD has off from school all next week, so I know what she'll be doing. (We call it "incubator TV.")

I've been lurking (AKA pouting) all of my chicken groups, here and in Facebook...knowing I had nothing to contribute until Spring. Missing these hens I had been raising for so long... Hardcore pouting.
My mom got a message from her neighbor. She didn't want to raise her flock by herself and her husband lost all interest in helping, would her chicken daughter be interested in taking them?
Absolutely!!!!!
So, with a granted protective order, newly locked coop and a game camera set up, we brought home 6 "Americana" Easter Eggers (old enough to be laying) and 7 Cornish cross ready to butcher! I do NOT have to wait until Spring!
We are beyond thrilled to be right back at it so soon!

Sorry to hear that. Wish I were ready for ducks to be able to help.

Best thing that ever happened to me was my first marriage ending in divorce. All will be fine.
