INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

"4-H is full of traditions that make it a strong and recognizable organization. It also is an adaptable organization that changes to meet the needs of the members. Please be aware that Marion County 4-H will not be having livestock shows at the Marion County Fair this year. While this has long been a tradition, the lack of tradional farms in our county has lead to a decrease in number of livestock shown."

Sigh.

Had a great visit with @jchny2000 and her charming family today. Tried to help lighten her workload in light of her family situation so she got my adult turkeys and I've got a bunch more chickens! So far, they all seem to be settling in well with my tribe of birds.

Was super cheered to find a lonely male quail. He has a chunk of gunk on his foot, so I'm going to be loosening it, bit by bit, while he's settling in with my two pheasants. Missed having the little boogers about because they're just so adorable and hilarious to watch. Can't wait to get him some girls.

Also very happy to get two new ducks-- a Pekin drake (thought about naming him Howard, but I'm seriously leaning on Sir Francis Drake), and a snowy mallard hen (Linda Hunt might just be her name because she's a miniboss). My blue Runner and Cayuga hens were acting like it was high time I got them some male companionship.

@Indyshent it was awesome to see you today! Aside from hospital, Drs offices and home health folks I haven't been able to socialize much. I'm glad this arrangement worked out for us both. I also realized today chasing leghorns is my least favorite thing, LOL! Foghorn is a real stinker. You will love the lil miniboss mallard, she is a real charmer.

Our county also has no remaining farms. 4H is still active with a HUGE presence in Visual Arts & photography. Cooking, sewing, & many science areas are also very competitive. Unfortunately with the high value of land in this area, it looks like we may lose our county fairgrounds. The official county statement is that we must look to the future needs of the community and that our county is no longer agriculturally based. The 100 year lease will be up in 3 years, so the county is being courted by land developers with big pockets. We still have livestock at the fair, but I doubt our kids will even have a county fair in 3 years. Of course nothing about selling the land has been publicized. Only that the county must consider all possible options for the land and decide what's best for all its constituents. Meanwhile budget issues continue to take the spotlight.

I mentioned your girl to Chuck but he just looked at me like there was something wrong with me. :p

Donkeys are awesome, but yes, you need to provide a lot of care in the spring. I adore Daisy, and that's why I want her to have a home that she will have interaction. Dads really rebounding, so I hope she can possibly remain here. But if the right home pops up, then I will rethink again. She really needs a companion of her own species, and I have had no luck obtaining another mini. Right now adding another would be foolish for sure.
I do have a new BIL from DHs side, that keeps minis. We are talking and she may possibly visit there a few months and come home.
