The rosebush was already on the property when we moved here.
Just thought interesting enough to post.

Are you planning on "house duckies"?So I'm going to make a few duck diapers out of baby socks for my 3 lavender Muscovy ducklings.
Wish me luck!
A one-hour trip is nothing, especially if there are Legbars waiting at the end of that trip! View attachment 1156713 He needs to put things into better perspective.
We did about a 7-hour round trip to pick up my silkied Cochin bantams. Worth every single moment because now I get to see these precious little munchkins every day.

Yes it's late, but that's what I thought when I allowed a couple broodies to have their way in September. I didn't plan to keep any and had no one waiting to buy chicks. I did find a few people who would take free chicks, so at least I knew I could rehome them before winter.Too cute! I did a 5 hour round for my Silkies. DH was absolutely against silkies, claimed they were ugly. I brought a BBS (Nyx) and Buff (Butternut) home and he is in love with them. Nyx loves him and will run up and stomp her feet until he picks her up.
I'm thinking about hatching a batch of Olive Eggers, Ameraucana Maran Cross. Its so late in the season I feel like I should wait until the new year but I'd like to do a hatch and see how it goes so I can ask for an incubator for Christmas. I have a couple people interested, but I'm still a little hesitant. My grandma said she would let me borrow her incubator to try. I'm thinking a small hatch, 10 eggs or so.
Thoughts?

I sold 8 in 24 hours after hatching - then decided I should allow the mommies to keep some their chicks for a little while. I guess I was the only person in the area who had chicks. The mommies are co-brooding & adorable! The rest of the flock also protects the chicks and the chicks seem more mature / wise for their age. I think all the predators have made them more alert too.
You have silkies, so perhaps one will want to adopt chicks. It's great not worrying about chicks eating, drinking, & flock integration.
View attachment 1157139 I have two blue silkies that are roughly 4 months old. The guess right now is that they are both roosters. I wanted to get a feel to see if anyone would be interested in them if they are in fact Roos.

I would guess you're right. Our ladies have very poofy puffs on their heads. Yours seem to have very stringy puffs. But indy is right, they could possibly go the other way.
