Hello to all of you southern friends
haven't been on the forums in a while - mainly because of the updated website is a bit less user-friendly to navigate (especially on a mobile device).
Hopefully all is well with everyone.
The "cliff notes" version of things up here in the Mitten :
We had our annual Chickenstock back in June - lots of delicious food & conversation.
We did various hatches earlier this year & had our 1st time with some newer breeds for our farm - Silverrudd Blue (aka: Isbar) & "OEs" . The SBs are such wonderful sweethearts !
We have plenty of extra cockerel grow-outs (which is typical) - stands to reason, since it is the year of the rooster in the Chinese zodiac.
We are growing some CornishX again & will be butchered in late Oct.
Some of you may remember seeing some photos of our Chocolate & Cream Pomeranian - he went to doggie heaven in April, due to some terminal health issues .
I will try to post some random poultry photos soon, tho most are stored on my phone
Take care .

Here is pictures of my new Male Lavender and Male Chocolate with the 2 month old lavender pair. The male lavender is pretty ruffed up. I feel like he might have been getting beat up at the persons place I bought him from.

The dad is 50%+ buff Orpington (the cockerels' grandma). Here's a pic of the grandpa (the cockerels' great-grandpa) on the couch. The other 50% is a mix of rose comb Rhode Island Red, Production Red, and hatchery buff Orpington.

The moms are Dominique.

Wishing you were closer. I could actually use the last guy you pictured. He's only single barred, but he could still save me a generation/year or so of breeding toward my autosexing project. I need another rooster like I need a hole in my head, but I'm going to have to do some downsizing before winter anyway.

Speaking of downsizing, anybody looking for white silkie boys? I have at least two that could use a new home, if anyone's looking for a new guy. One's more chivalrous so far (they're both at the bottom of the pecking order here, so they'll both be more chivalrous elsewhere, I'm sure), but neither is aggressive. Poor little Lion-O is getting picked on, and it's not helping his health at all.

I would do some driving to meet. You are quite a ways away. Is this the one? He has got to go, very, very soon. He's very unique.

Yup! Any particular reason he needs to go especially soon?

All of your striped chicks are boys, just in case you were wanting a crystal ball answer on gender to help you find them homes. Any solid chicks are girls. Despite your rooster being mixed, none of his ancestral breeds were barred or even anything but gold. I'm still wondering how he threw what appears to be crele (barred wild type/black breasted red), but I'm guessing the production Red or hatchery buff Orpington was heterozygous for Colombian (and therefore that your rooster must be too) otherwise so many black chests in these boys wouldn't be possible. The last chick you pictured has a dose of Colombian, which is why black is restricted to his hackles and tail (and maybe a couple stray flecks elsewhere), which is why he's pretty much buff barred :drool

***So, when and where shall our big processing weekend be held?***

That might be a nice occasion to find homes for unwanted roosters and get help in processing the others, since you're not feeling up to their "one bad day". It's much easier to process other people's birds--especially when surrounded by super sympathetic forum members!

If not, I may be in for some driving or a chicken train!
