Oh my gosh, I'm a chicken addict!!!! I cant stop thinking about chickens, chicks, and roosters!! I've just purchased almost 20 chicken books (thanks to amazon), egg shaped salt & pepper shakers, egg shaped spatula, 4 egg collecting baskets, and 4 personalized egg stampers. My poor husband is trying his best to restrain me but I want more, I want more, I want more!!! Fellow chicken lovers when will the crazies stop?? Hahahaha!

Am--- Sounds like me (and most of our members!) I love to look online at anything chicken-related. The bad thing is that my sister is visiting for the weekend, and I'd rather be out with my flock. Yikes! We did do some gardening together with the hens today, but not as long as I would've liked. I know I'm being selfish, but I am addicted to being outside with my girls.

For all you chicken lovers, I make chicken art

Today could very well be the day!!!!

My chickens are anywhere from 5 weeks to 8 weeks and the coop is ALMOST finished. Yesterday the locks went in on the shutters, the chicken door was cut, sliding door was installed (hubby planned and created his own pulley system door so we can open it from the outside), ramp was cut, and the roosting bars were set in place.

Today the ramp and bars get installed and the feeders and waterers get made. Then my girls can FINALLY get into their new home!!!!!

We still need to decide what to use as nesting box liners, but I can do that anytime.

This chicken mama is a happy camper!!!!

I thought it would be a good idea to throw a flat sheet down on the floor and set up my sons old
playpen system so the chicks could run around a little while I cleaned the brooder today. I
didn't know I would be the one running around chasing the chick. The one that has been fighting pasty butt,
slipped out through the corner crack and ran like a maniac around my kitchen with my son in pursuit. They
were trying to fly up and climb out. These stinkers fly so much better than I would have thought possible. I got them April 5th.

oh, and is wing flapping and chest bumping a normal chick behavior, or is it sign of a roo?
Too funny.

I think the chest bumping and so on is normal for them all, they have to establish a "pecking order". There we go again, a chicken term integrated into normal conversation, like being "cooped up".

Yeah same here. Except we started counting all the chicken stuff we have in the kitchen after we got our chickens. Pretty amazing that we had like 12 or so chicken items already! Guess we were destined to have a flock.

So I never thought I would care about stupid chickens, I ate chicken, thought they weren't smart, thought they were just dirty birds. Then I got ten this spring....... I just wanted eggs. Don't get me wrong, I am an animal lover. I have had more dogs, horses, cat, parrots, fish, alpacas, that I loved.... bla bla bla, you name it I have had it. I am a dog groomer by trade. I am border line vegetarian. I only eat dairy, eggs, fish, and chicken..... nope not anymore.( My best friend brought a whole cooked chicken to my house tonight and I nearly gagged, mostly because I have 3 week old cochins and wyandottes in the room 15 feet away from my kitchen and it might as well have been a cooked puppy to my brain) I'm losing it huh? lol. So I realized.....I LOVE CHICKENS. Yep I said it. I'm hooked. Darn birds. I hug them. They love me. It's pathetic. I'm not sure when in the 7 weeks that I have had them living in my house, occasionally watching t.v. with my husband and I, that this attachment manifested itself, but I am irreversibly addicted to this feathery, constantly pooping, pecks my fingers, dusty, awesome adorable creature. I can't stop trolling BYC. I hope all of you, my Indiana friends understand my new illness, and can put up with my constant questions and thirst for poultry knowledge. Because I fear it isn't going away any time soon. I just thought you all should know this. Thanks for reading.

Yes yes yes! Move in day is awesome. We are working frantically to complete the run. Hopefully it will get done today, I'm now going outside to slave away for my chicks.

Just a picture to share with you all... I having been putting some pine shavings in with the little ones since I moved them outside, well as the temps have been a little lower these past few evenings so I figured I would put some straw in there too for a little insulation.

Apparently... Straw is the scariest thing on earth.

Although you can not see... there are 15 chicks right there. The ones that are sitting higher are doing so as they are sitting on top on the others.

Guess no more straw for them.
