INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

@kanina
Hmmmm. I see what you mean about the eggs. That's a lot of glowing for 2 weeks of incubation. I don't always see movement or identifiable body parts, but I usually see a large shadowy area like in this pic below. (Just a random pic from online, not one of mine)

With 2 week old brown eggs you should be able to see an air cell, a shadow (chick), and some glowing (room for growing)

One of mt fav pics below = back when DD was learning how to candle & record her egg progress. I think the egg was at about day 12. White eggs are easier to see through.

I got a 8' tall x 8' wide x 16' long POD Container for $300 today! Has a garage door and a sealed roof that Doesn't leak!! Pictures aren't of my POD but look Exactly like it! People on CL are selling them for $750 each, I got mine for only $300! Best deal ever! Only had to fix up a few things on it. It folds down to store it away! Weighs 2100lbs though!

My Muscovy's squeezed under a 4" gap under my coops and dug it out to build a nest. They just might be laying under there. Anywhere there is a whole or a tight squeeze, they will try to go to build a nest. I had one who likes to squeeze under the fence and nest inside the pile of old hay bedding I cleaned out the coops. They will burrow. I also have a duck who likes to dig out a hole under plywood and build a nest under the plywood. If they roam with the chickens, and can access the chicken coops, they just might lay inside it. Try laying plywood up against a wall in your pen. They tend to feel more comfortable that way.
I'll have to keep an eye out. Anywhere in particular they like to lay? I'm wondering if they might go under the duck house though I can't imagine its easy to get under right now. I'm not sure what to set up for them in terms of a nest box. I've read very contrasting things.

We had freezing rain over night, that was fun. The babies are still doing OK outside, and good thing too because we have some guests in their brooder for isolation. A partridge silkie hen and a white silkie cross roo. He's so handsome but I can't keep him. He's docile, but I can tell he's a dominate roo. Found them on CL for free, so of course I had to be impulsive and get them.

I'm also assuming he's a cross since he has that big comb and I've never seen a Silkie roo with a single comb. Jax has a small crest and a pea comb. This guy is also twice the size, easily, of the hen. (OMG my brooder needs a good cleaning)

And as promised, some day 15 egg pictures.

Fibro 1

Fibro 2 - there is a lot going on in this egg. It is super dense, however I was able to find the air sac.

Fibro 3

Orpington 1 - these are the ones I'm concerned about. They seem very underdeveloped. Maybe because I'm comparing them to the fibros? BUT idk if they are the same as my last hatch or not. I'm planning on printing off a few photos of my egg progress for the next hatch.

Sorry for the photo overload. I wish there was a way to hide them so they didn't take up so much scroll room.

Thinking of Progress, I have some news:
1. DD got an A on her sci fair project (testing eggshell strength). She was one of only 3 kids in the school to get an A. The teacher liked how she explained all the issues she had when building her egg-smasher and how she overcame them. DD did a good job identifying all the possible variables and an honest evaluation on how she would further improve her design. Tomorrow she will present to for the judges and next week she will find out if she's going to regionals.
:woot

2. My chickens started laying. I got SIX chicken eggs today, and 3 of those must be new layers because I do not recognize the shape & color. Then I got SIX quail eggs!
:wee

:welcome

Depends where you live, what breed you're looking for and how old you're looking for.
I am in NW indiana. I would prefer a few days old because I only had one successful hatch and I want to add to this brood. I am honestly not picking on breed but want female.
