INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

How are they? I am going to convince my other half we need ducks too. Need them.
They are doing very well! They are little poop machines though. :lol::sick
If you are up for a drive, @Nyla has beautiful Muscovies. If I can convince my hubby - anyone can! :D (well he is still not sure about having ducks lol)

@Nyla
I will definitely convince him we need to take a field trip for some muscovies.
I'm so excited for all the warm weather this summer. Lots of projects going on.

Blargh. Was going to buy a couple hens from someone local but couldn't get a ride. Maybe Friday (and hope ride doesn't complain about traffic then too, and that the seller still has a couple nice girls left).
Yay! hope it pans out. I just candled first round of eggs are fertile!
Been a minute since I hit this board.

Bred the new Zealand and californian two weeks ago, she's preggers!

And got 4 baby chicks. 2 rhode island reds and 2 gold laced Wyandotte. Super excited!
Love New Zealand, congrats!

Just candled my EE/OE eggs, looking really good! Going to hatch 2 more weeks in hopes I can get some of my rooster's gene pool. Even in complete dark with 2 LED lights, I can't see into Olive's eggs, ugh. She is my favorite girl (army green egg). I've been at this over 6 years now, some of my hens are 5. They still lay well but its time I hatch a new flock. My leghorn and EE will live their lives out here, they have earned it. The new flock already has an empty coop waiting for them.

I'm excited for that adventure. But right now I'm going to stare lovingly at my babies.
@Nyla
I can't wait! The convincing has begun. I've already got my sister-in-law on my side. We are on a mission.

We're in the same boat as you. We've been chickening for over 6 years and some of our hens are 5, as well. Our old girls don't seem to be interested in laying eggs anymore. Freeloaders! They pop one out now and then, but they're pets and will live out their lives with us without their 'one bad day'.

I enjoy having chickens NOW more than I did six years ago. The 5yr olds are like old friends now and I really enjoy talking with them and watching them peck.

We've been stocking our flock with the occasional new bird over the years, but even those 'new' ones are 4yrs old now.

We got new chicks this year. The minimum order was WAY more than we wanted, but any extras won't be hard to get rid of. DW has already begun naming the chicks, so I foresee the biggest difficulty is getting her to choose which ones to keep and which to rehome.

It's also fun having friends from work (city people) come over and help socialize the chicks. Both the people and the chicks benefit.
