INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

How fun! Those are great pics to track growth.
I took a good idea from you & decided to take a photo of each chick just after hatch before dumping them into the brooder. Their names are just numbers from the order of hatch. I always keep detailed records, but with so many chicks, pics are probably an easier way for me to associate eggs, hatch times, & chick appearance.

It is pretty incredible, just in those pictures, how much growth you can see on her. I'm going to keep it up as long as I can--though judging by how difficult they were to get pictures of today it may not be much longer. :tongue

Caught a rat yesterday, and Ursa caught it as I was trying to get it out of the trap. Found out she'll kill them... but slowly.

The "Chocolate Bourbon" girl is now named "Maple Syrup" to go with Pancake and Sweetie, I guess. Jake Jake and Henny Penny don't have names that go with anyone else's, but if these eggs under Penny hatch, poults might wind up named for breakfast foods, turkey products or dragons, like turkeys from years past. Penny's clutch is due soon, so we'll see what hatches. The other three hens haven't even started laying for the year.

I'm supposed to meet someone in Brownsburg tomorrow for a handful of bantams. Seller is from the Geneva area but has to drive to Brownsburg for work lately (2 hour one-way. I cry thinking of it). Looking forward to meeting this intrepid seller and some marvelous little birds.

:sick on the rat, but yay on the bantams! What kind are you getting? :D

Jealous! Our crocuses are pathetically small and no signs of buds yet. Some of our daffodils are starting to bud, though! :fl

They're just "Rainbow Loom" rubber bands. Cheap & since the fad has all but passed, they're more useful to me than my kids. I just double them up (triple for the 1st 1-2 days if needed.)

Other people use colored zip ties, and they do actually sell poultry leg bands in all sizes. I just found rubber bands are easier to put on/take off, plentiful, & on hand.

As someone who has tried about a million different methods of marking chicks to distinguish them... Rainbow Loom bands are the absolute best!! :yesss:

I'll have to buy some when I go to the store. I definitely want to be able to call saffron and sage their right names all the time.
Kiwi and strawberry too!

You already know I sell Muscovy's lol :frow

I do I do!! And I can’t wait to see the little ones when they hatch next month! :love:celebrate

I was also looking for some call ducks because that’s what originally talked my hubby into saying yes! Haha:lau he said no deal unless he gets his call ducklings lol :idunno:lau

I posted a craigslist link a day or so ago in which a person was selling a trio of calls for like 25. Recall it being cheaper than usual, and the birds were super cute.
