INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

My advice as a graphic designer is to throw out the picture of the pink chicken and the black background. I realize that photoshop is "fun" when playing around with it but you have to accept your limitations with the program. Id take the original image and simply apply a warming filter. You have beautiful photos so dont ruin them.
I definitely agree, but she's 13. (ie- She cut off the tips of her gloves & wore a winter hat today.) I think it's her little rebellion to leave some of the better pics at home and bring the pink rooster. I feel she'll learn more by allowing her to make the choices. I guess I better get used to it!

Well sorry I haven't been around guys it's been really busy especially with the hot weather and of course Penny decides to hatch 5 babies but because of the nasty rain storm we had this way lost all five.
The only good news is that we know now that tank is able to give us babies with Penny.
On the other side of the farm our good news Kate has fertile eggs and we candled one yesterday just to be sure.
Ill also be able to come get the babies from indie @Indyshent any weekend you're free

I just messaged Meyer Hatchery where Agrarian purchases their birds. I sent a photo of the 7 week old Cochin. Here's the Reply:
Still early to tell for certain, but I am not seeing any obvious rooster characteristics. Here is our blog on some things to look for to determine gender in young chickens

Btw, I've messaged and emailed Meyer Hatchery in the past, and they have always responded quickly and have been nice and helpful.

Hi, M2H. Good to hear from you. I'm at my computer all day, too, so when I get home, being on the computer is the last thing I want to do.

We got several sexed pullet chicks from Ideal and one has turned out to be a cockerel. As I've never had that happen before, I presumed I was just out of luck.
Would you recommend I contact Ideal and tell them one turned out to be incorrectly sexed?

I dont think ill ever understand teenagers. I look back at old photos of myself and think "what was i thinking!" Being a teenager seems to be knowing there is an outside world and thinking you know everything about it. Then you get there and are wondering how youre ever gonna pay off your student loans

We had a calf. He and his mama got out last week and a neighbor tried to be helpful and tied them to his truck and drove them home. Apparently he fell and the guy dragged him all the way home, he was dead when he got to our house. Said sorry, didn't offer any reimbursement.
Oh no! I would be heartsick!

Absolutely would, they should give you a credit.

Haha so true! I was pretty arrogant and thought I knew it all. Pretty humbling once you have to make it in the adult world.

Going to sell my guinea flock, 8 total left.. Mostly females maybe 2 males. All are yearling and currently laying. Sold 5 today to a friend that's been waiting a few months to get some. They won't stay in the yard when free ranging, and are not doing us any good locked up. If anyone is interested send me a message. Wasn't too concerned in the past, but now with the big subdivision (400 homes) building up so fast. I don't want to cause a traffic hazard. Also selling my Pekin/Khaki/mixed duck flock, won't stay away from the road either. Geese and Muscovy are staying they know the boundaries.

Sold off my extra roosters, sure don't need 4 leghorn roos! Kept my old fella Foghorn and his largest son. Crows just like him too lol! They had a trial free range together and Foghorn ignored him. My youngster EE flock actually has three boys. 1 blue, 1 lavender 1 black! I have had several free range days with the young EE and my old flock. Within the next month will be dividing everyone up. Plan to have a rooster pen again too until I pick who I want to keep.
Still, :th no calves. We finally got Pixie's halter on and had to order a new one for Dixie, hers is too small now. Neither girl kicks when restrained, and allows me to touch udders, examine them head to foot. No kicking either, am very pleased with that. DH is going to build a milking stanchion for them, and we are drawing up plans for a new cow barn. I have a milking machine, professional type waiting for a milk barn lol. I mostly hand milk goats now, but the machine would really speed things up for them and the cows. Had to set my foot down with Dad, he commented yum, fresh raw milk... told him we will see. His age and health, raw milk isn't a good idea but will discuss with his Dr.

I'm so sorry for your loss. What a terrible sinking feeling. And to have it happen while you are away and then come home to that! You have my sympathy.
I got the predator!!! I put a trap inside the chicken run and he came back and got what he deserves. The raccoon was already dead when i found it ( probably due to the heat). I am an animal lover but this time i felt closure. The animal was very heavy ( no wonder.. he eat 8 chickens) and very large. I never knew raccoons have fangs, and this one had very long ones. I have set the trap again and I will continue doing it until I feel comfortable that the place is safe. I have three new chicks and they are staying indoors until I reinforce the chicken run. Thanks to all for your replies.
