Would you be willing to do it yourself? I

Processing them ourselves would be our last resort. I don’t think we have any pots big enough to scald them in to defeather them. Plus we have had a problem with foxes and don’t want anything else to attract anymore attention to us.

I do host processing events at my farm a couple times a year. If you bring your own bird its free. Turkeys are actually easier than chickens to process, due to a larger overall size. I don't have a plucker but we do have a turkey sized scalding pot. If its something that would help you, send me a personal message. This includes everyone that would like to learn! I have 6 roosters coming up to process myself so will be hosting an event soon.

Suddenly over run by Japanese beetles and Hornworms, yuk!
Been going out at night with a blacklight flashlight picking Hornworms off. Killed a couple tomato plants. Found a big one eating on a pepper plant! The beetles are after my grape leaves. I've been shaking them off into a 5 gallon bucket with a couple inches of water, also at night. Anyone have tips on natural non-chemical pest control? I know sevin dust works but I don't want to harm the honeybees.

The only thing I can think of for Japanese Beetles are the traps with the pheromone attractant.

I've been shaking them off one of my Rugusa rose bushes into a container and then throwing them into the pond where a Muscovy duckling is swimming and then eats them. The chickens get some too.

I do need to get a Japanese beetle trap to put out where the grapevines are though. There's just too many plants to go around shaking them off.

Don't your chickens eat the Japanese beetles? I'm pretty sure mine do. I caught some & fed them to the flock. I'll even call the chickens over as I shake the plants to help them reach the bugs on top. (I rarely see any beetles at a height of 30" or less from the ground.)

Absolutely they will, but they also eat my tomatoes. I have tons of beetle traps up now. already changed the full bags fed them to the chickens. 1 day they will strip our grapevines, ugh. I'm less than 5ft tall and they are over my head eating grape leaves.

We got back very late tonight went camping, caught a nice basket of bluegills, YUM!
Our 4H fair is this week, have 2 cows-Dairy and beef and one dairy goat entered to show. All 3 ladies are behaving well for my Niece Hannah. My best friends daughter has took great interest in Mocha my oldest Oberhasli Doe and is showing her too. This little girl (she is 8 now) Is such a gem, adore her like my own grandchild. I'm so proud of both these young ladies!
I'm a strong supporter of FFA and 4H. So many children miss out on collecting eggs for breakfast. Having a pet chicken sit on your lap! Both are showing different poultry and waterfowl breeds as well. 100% support these kids wanting to learn

Our fair is also this week, so today's the 1st day of project judging. We live in a very suburban area, so hens & rabbits are pretty much the only 4-H livestock at our fair. (All the other animals are brought in from big farms in other counties and states. My kids don't bring our chickens, but they do plenty of science and art projects. Although the glue is dry on all their projects due today, there are still some minor things in need of finishing as well as the baking for tomorrow. It's Going to be a crazy day, but worth it.

This is also DS's 1st year where he's eligible to compete. He's done simple Cloverbud projects for 3 years, but he's very excited to be judged. He finally gets to be in the spotlight! (Normally, he just waits around for his sister to finish so we can go home.)

Last week we had our group meeting where we did some mock judging. All the kids worked very hard, and it was nice to see them proudly present what they did and learned. I lead the little Cloverbuds in our group and this year I only had one.

That's the reason I am still involved even though my kids are grown. Not many children are interested and I really hope helping a few kids will encourage more. Both these young ladies are more farm oriented. The parents just don't have funds, fences or room to keep cattle or goats long term. I encourage any child I know to learn anything they want, especially farming in general.

I guess i'm stupid or uneducated to post fair pictures. Elsa my Hereford and Mocha my oldest Oberhasli showed at county fair. My Jersey heifer shows tomorrow. I didn't realize chickens, geese, ducks showed too! Game changer! Both my nieces did well next year is Hannah's last.
