INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I'm not near you (west suburbs of Chicago) but I'll have some orpingtons (maybe a couple seramas) in 3 weeks. Due 9-9 = my birthday :)

I also have a serama who hatched last week (8-11). It's small and might be the same size as a reg chick in another week. It's holding its own in a brooder with giant orpington siblings. The mama hen is my veteran broody: Cookie, so I'm not worried. I have a 5 wk old serama in the same brooder. She's almost as big as my 1 wk old orp chicks, but it's a special circumstance. I also know Cookie can handle all their needs.

If you do have a lonely only situation and can't find any chicks closer to you, send me a PM.

I had no idea Serama chicks could be scrappy!
Thanks much for your offer. There's a local store in Indianapolis, Agrarian, that sells chicks by the singles, so I'll plan on picking up a friend or two for that hatchling.

Cute, cute, cute!! I can't wait.

I find that my gentle giants are sometimes too gentle and can easily be pushed around by the bantams. My sebright, "Trouble," is the queen. No one ever messes with her! It's the little birds that have the biggest attitudes, and they're too quick / agile for my slow-moving orps to do anything about. The bantams & LF were raised together, so the bantams learned how to grab & go in order to obtain the very best treats. I also have multiple feeders around at different heights.

The main drawback of the seramas is their lack of cold tolerance. We set up a winter coop on our back porch for the seramas. They simply can't take our Midwest winters & even come into the house when it gets extremely cold.

Hey, everyone.

They would be kind-of like using the heat plates except they can be hung or put on a wall/pen.
Nice, I have been considering one after the last few cold winters and sub zero temps. Muscovy are not as cold tolerant as other ducks. Its a real pain bringing 5 adult ducks into an unheated porch. Fortunately not as messy as Pekin derived breeds are.

Planning to have my vet out to see what cows are bred very soon. Dixie is a definite, and probably Elsa. That leaves Frosty, Pixie and Daisy. Daisy is plenty old enough now and is a bit chubby, but she hasn't been with the bull since she left in May to train for fair. Want to get his input on Pixie too she just always looks underweight to me.
My American Bresse chickens get a new coop next. Its not as bad as the other 2 coops but that coop won't hold up to another winter. I have 13 total Bresse. 5 are roosters so the 2 best mannered & proportioned fellas I will keep. So far none appear to be human aggressive, and the boys aren't fighting. They are 16 weeks now so steady eggs should be anytime!

I'm thinking of rehoming a male muscovy and probably two females to go with him. Looking for a forever pet home with room to roam. Pm me if interested.
Adore the Muscovy. They are less messy than a mallard derived bird. We have 5 ducks and 1 drake now. Excellent mothers. Wish we were closer. I've kept them 7 years now feel they are the best choice for duck breeds to keep. I would love to add new bloodline to our flock.

Our bull is getting big! His hindquarter is almost 6ft high. Zero's birthday is January 2nd he turns 2. The breeder uses names from children's movies hence the Frosty, Elsa and Zero names lol. Sweet gentle fella I just adore him. I check our fence lines daily and he always follows along. Note his muddy feet, he loves standing in their pond.

Next chicken coop is in process now. Its going to have detachable hotwire attached because its going into the cows pasture. That will prevent the cows rubbing and butting it but still allow the birds in and out.
