INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

You are still young !! and leaving in a farm is the best way to live (to me). I work in an office (counting down for retirement) when I get home to my chickens and my garden , that's the best time of the day .. all stress goes away.
Do you still have your bantams? I just got me 7 babies and of course no way to tell the sex yet. I am hoping I don't get too many roosters out of the 7. Do you have bantam roosters living in the same coop?

I dont keep bantam currently but I adore OEG. The boys are great with humans. The hens will sure hatch eggs! I have a rooster coop so I can keep boys that are not my 1st choice. I've let my entire rooster coop go last week with our roofer so it's changing what I keep. If the boys grow up together you are usually ok. Bantam breeds are much easier than large frame chickens.

I just realized I type "Leaving in a farm" when i meant "living in a farm". LOL

Auto correct always makes life more interesting!

My fav was a few years ago when someone meant to type that they "liked" a particular breed of chicken. Instead it came out that he "licked" those chickens. That one extra letter made all the difference.

So we had 2 unexpected guests turn up tonight. Had neighbors tell me the last 3 days they were seen wandering. Even the prison officers saw them alone milling about near the prison. There was also that same Great Pyrenees stray dog seen with them, have not seen it here yet. Tiny little goats likely Nigerians. I put them in an electric fence close but separated from my goat herd. They are very lucky Coyotes had not got to them yet. The fellas building our new neighbor's house came by since we keep goats. One fella contained them. I've brought them here. We've posted to our local Petfinder.

I'm really sad for them, they're obviously pets. If we can't find the owner I'll keep them. Both are sweet and gentle goats. No collars, chips or ID's. Just sad they don't deserve this.

Oh! I wonder what happened to their Pyr guardian. I hope a coyote didn’t get him. Or a car. :(

I wonder if they were dumped.

Chick update:
I have my odd family. Black orp chick turned 4 weeks yesterday. She still looks very female with no comb, wattles, or color at all. The serama pullet hatched in October..... but mama MaiMai never seemed to notice or care much about the size difference. Of course now there's no longer a size difference.

Then we have mama Xansie who was put in charge of the one lonely serama chick. She turned 3 weeks old today. Also looks female.

Often serama males have a little hint of comb & wattles by now. This one has none.

Last but not least I let my serama, Sesame, sit on 2 orp eggs. They are due tomorrow. I was going to candle the eggs & was surprised to pull out a broken shell. The other egg was pipped.

Look what I found!

Isn't he adorable! (I'm only saying "he" because my last 3 chicks were female. I gotta hatch a male at some point, right?)

I really enjoy your reading, so entertain. I love the baby blanket background for the chicks picture...
