INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

The Tuesday chick-a-holic meeting did not get here fast enough! I convinced Husband to let me get one chick to replace the one I lost....and HE found2 more HE wanted! Anyone have Speckled Sussex info?

What do you want to know about them? :) I have two, but one was a runt and has a sort of partridge pattern under her speckling instead of just mahogany.

I have a question my chicks are 5 weeks I have 19 red pullets and 2 white turkeys that age and then I have 6 RIR and 2 bronze turkeys that are 2 weeks old. The last couple of day they have taken and dug down to the bottom of the bow and for the wood chips every where. I go straten it up and 5 mins later it is the same way. It is not is one spot it is the hole box. I have cleaned it and then they just start all over again. there is plenty of water and food.

BEAUTIFUL! How soon can I expect to yell the sex? What color eggs will I get with a hen? Are they brooders? Docile?

I only had pullets, but when I looked it up, it seemed like people found it easiest at 6-7 weeks. I have weekly pictures of these girls up to two months old, so we can compare growth later on if you'd like. :)

Both of them lay a pretty beige/tan egg.

I think they are occasional brooders, but neither of mine have gone broody yet (they're 10 1/2 months old).

Mine are pretty docile. They're not lap birds and don't like to be picked up, but they don't seem to mind if I walk up to them and pet them. VERY curious, though. They're always getting into things and exploring, those two.

My chickies LOVE fermented feed. We call it fermented candy. If they see the blue bucket in my hand they go crazy and run to the coop door or flock me in the yard. lol It's cute. Still can't get over the fact my chickens followed me to the front door then pecked until I opened it, and then walked in so casually like HI MOM. They stayed hot on my tail all weekend while I picked Dandelions for jelly. DH says they're more like kids than chickens. I just laughed and agreed. An eternal 2 year old.
