INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Brad, on the quail, what would you say the meat compares to, is it like turkey, or different I had wild pheasant but its been 30 years ago.

ive never had pheasant (although working on getting some eggs locally), but the cortunix are all dark meat. The Texas A&M whites are white meat. I butchered 6, giving 4 away. I breaded and pan fried mine and wished I'd kept more for myself lol. It could have been my processing (first time doing it), but my mom and myself kinda noticed a chicken liver taste to it. I love chicken liver so it was great for me. My mom, not so much lol. She said it was ok, but preferred chicken.
I have read people feeding alfalfa pellets and corn exclusively for the last week or two prior to butchering and it changes the taste for the better?

I hope it was just a fluke. But thats why I always like to hatch out my own.
indeed! Plus I get more enjoyment from the suspense of hatching my own lol

Oh then I know I will like it, I am a leg and thigh person, I got a mix of both jumbo and A&M so DH gets his white meat! Awesome, win - win!!

X2, I won't be buying many more chicks now, just eggs. Unless its a can't pass it up never again kinda deal!

I have a question. 2 of the chicks i got in the feathered legged bantam assortment do not have feathered legs but noticing now they have muffs. Anyone have any idea what all bantam breeds have muffs? Oh by the way the chicks are yellow and so are their legs. My other thought is that they messed up and got those 2 mixed up with the bantams but i cant see 2 of the same getting mixed in.

That is odd, I have a little d'uccle (?) i think thats tufted, but has feathered legs too. Hoping someone with more bantam experience can answer, I am a noob on them. maybe look at feathersite, they have pretty good pics on there

me me me I wonder if it could be something to due with a chemical in the feed (either accidently put there by the maker, or somehow at the store you got it from?) or perhaps some kind of mold/fungus that was either dormant or just barely started to start to "sprout" enough you couldn't really see/smell it but there enough to hurt the chicks.

What puzzles me is they look just like easter egger chicks. Which i have hatched out before. But how in the world would they get mixed in with the bantams.
My 2 little chicks looks just like this except their legs are yellow and not slate.

I do have this lil girl, she isnt tufted tho. Above the Sebright Roo here:

She is an off white, with a cream head and neck. She looked a lot like that chick too.

No clue what she is either lol, about the size of a cardinal or robin right now if that, they are about 2 months old.
