INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Ok, so I bought a hot water heater thermostat and used a cooler Ifound at the dump and voila.... Ihave just upgraded myself to incubator engineer/small scale electrician. So proud of myself :) now collecting eggs to set Thursday or Friday... hopefully this time Danand and I will have a bator full of babies! Just tweaking to get the right temp now.

Wow--too busy over the weekend to keep up with the thread, so had some reading to do.
Congrats to all those new additions and condolences to those with losses. It's up and down with poultry.
I went to the Milton swap Saturday--a muddy mess--but sold all that I took, including my last 3 pygmy goats. Have had a few teary moments since, but I was comfortable with the families that they went to. Just finally had to admit that I'm not keeping up with everything and have to cut back.
Have had chicks hatching every week, so need to do some serious construction projects. I try to keep them until I can tell who is show quality, breeder quality, or pet quality, so getting pretty overrun. But does that stop me? I like LAMom's "Help! I can't stop hatching!" It certainly applies to me also.

Whew...several hundred posts and I missed a lot of them...

I know there must be something in there somewhere about all these maps of Indiana I'm seeing in the avatars... Can someone send me a pm and let me know where you're getting 'em?

Does the water heater thermostat actually keep 99.5 degrees plus or minus a degree? I would have thought maybe a 5-7 degree temp swing.

haven't posted on here in a while-since i found out my slw were roos, but i have been trying to keep up with most of the posts-- and the roos now have a nice new home to rooster it up! Love all the pictures!

So some of my co-workers found out today that I have chickens. I thought it was funny how they kept looking at me like I have the "plague" or something. One person said i didn't even look like the type of person that would keep chickens. ( i guess i wasn't aware that there is a certain look that chicken owners have?????) I told them that my chickens are like pets and i do enjoy being around them, and to me it is a kind of stress relief almost. But anyway...i guess that means that some of my co-workers will now be asking for some nice fresh eggs!

Also went to the feed store after work to get some necessities and it took every ounce of strength I had to not walk out with two little buff orpintons. (my boyfriend would dis-own me if i did!)

Hello, my name is BackyardBitten and I a chicken aholic and I almost had a relapse today at the feed store.

John~ I saw a youtube about how to make it more sensitive to temps... you just drill a couple extra holes around the wafer area, and keep the light bulb an inch or two away from the thermostat... and the thermometer on the opposite side of the incubator. It clicks on and off every second or so to keep a constant temp. I put water jars in mine just now to see if it would keep it from having to flick on so often. I'll find the youtube and post it for you :)
