We will. Feel free to PM me or leave a message on this thread over the next few months. Don't really want to get rid of him, but if he is constantly noisey than we may need to rehome him. We got our SLW thru TSC, so the quality most likely isn't very good, but he sure looks great to us! He has the proper rose comb.Too Fast
I need a Silver Laced Wyandotte Rooster if your feller gets too noisy. I have 5 1-week old pullets that will need a friend like him in a few months. I got my chicks through eFowl.com and I don't know what degree of quality they will be. I live in Lebanon, Indiana. Keep me in mind if things go south for your feathered friend.

Hey Hoosiers. First time raising chickens in Walkerton, Indiana.
Welcome! I maybe able to help you out with a SL wyandotte roo if your close to meI polished a Serb once. He shined up real nicely! Sorry, I couldn't resist. Color me weird.
I'm new to the group, too. I'll post a howdy in a minute. Just couldn't resist the opportunity to wisecrack.

Does anyone on here go to the central poultry show in lebanon? I went last year and met some really nice people. I also bought some chicks and some call ducks while i was there . I am going again this year too.
When is the show? I would love to go! I live just outside of Lebanon. My commute would be about 3 miles. I could walk it if I weren't so lazy.

I have never hatched raised or owned quail so I'm not very helpful there. As far as guineas go I have 10 right now and I love them! They are loud for sure. But when they give off a warning alarm all my chickens run for cover. So I look at that as a plus. Guineas also love bugs. They even eat ticks. Which is another plus in my book. Iv also read that you can garden wth guneas. They will eat the bugs but wont bother your plants. Iv not tried that yet though. Iv seen people talk about guineas being aggressive towards chcken and its possible they could be but iv never had a problem with mine. Iv actually noticed they will groom my turkeys. I can't go out and pick mine up and hold them but I can say chick chick chick and they will either run or fly to me and some will eat from my hand. Plus they are just so funny to watch. In my opinon their good qualities out weigh the bad. I also hear they taste good but iv never ate 1.So my daughter (she's 14) keeps asking why, if her brother can get ducks (a late birthday present), why can't she get quail & guineas???It doesn't help that one of her friends from school also raises chickens and ducks and quail and I'm not sure what else! We saw the quail hatchlings in the rabbit/poultry barn at state fair last year when we were there for rabbit competitions. She fell in love with the quail & has wanted them ever since. My question about quail is, what do you do with them? She says we can use their eggs, but I'm thinking they lay pretty small eggs & how many dozens of quail eggs does it take for a family-sized omelet??!! As far as meat goes, we butcher our own meat rabbits, but haven't done poultry (don't have to pluck a rabbit!). I can't imagine it would be worth it to pay someone to process quail for us would it??
Does anybody keep guineas? I've never heard them in person, but have read & heard from others that they are loud/noisy. Are there enough good reasons to raise them (besides, Mom -- they're pretty!) that outweigh the noisy factor? And is it an occasional noise or the kind that drives you nuts after 5 minutes?
Any input would be helpful.....
