INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

My coop will be finished tomorrow! Or at least DH says it will be...

Then we have to attach a run, and then fence in a big portion of our yard for them... But at least the coop will be done!

Oh, my chickens killed their first mouse. It had been getting into the feed/treats, but with all the animals I have here, I can't poison them, so I tried different containers. Apparently they couldn't get into the container, and tried to get into the brooder instead....where my 3 month old flock promptly dispatched him.

When I was over there, what you had in the basement looked to be chickens. Apparently, you have a cat in a chicken suit among the crowd.

do you have a link to the ones on Amazon?
I want to compare.

Also do either of you think the push style ones are better than the screw in kind?

My DH likes the bird too but he eats and eats and well it is not a breed we plan to stick with. $5 if the other person does not want him.

I have to say I love your coop. I'm in the process of blueprinting our next coop. I really like how you did the raised platform and the slant roof. Do you plan to collect the rain water? I'm trying to decide if I want to or not.

adding in that I think you could easily have a featured coop in the coop section with all of your great photos. you would need to type out measurements and plans but your coop looks wonderful.
Your roo is soooooo pretty.

Here is the link to one. http://www.amazon.com/Poultry-Chick...ching/dp/B004NEIS1M/ref=pd_sim_petsupplies_10

I did find others that weren't prime and was about to claim defeat (again) but at least I did find the one I was thinking of.

I've heard/read that the screw in is better but I haven't used them yet so I would trust John's knowledge on that :)

If we don't end up with a rooster, which right now I'm about 90% sure Caroline may end up being Carl, I may just take you up on that. Doesn't look like you are too far of a drive from me. Is he friendly?

Thanks for the coop compliments! We spent a lot of time and energy deciding exactly what we wanted. We talked about collecting the rain water, but we'd only be able to gutter the low part and it didn't really seem worth it for the 8 feet we'd get. Who knows, we may add that in time. I had some old cedar planks from a fence that we were going to use for siding, but I think we're actually going to use them in our house now, so I need another plan for siding. I really want to do wood siding so I'm on the hunt for some reasonably priced options. Trying to keep the coop from costing 30x what the chickens did...

Your coop is looking really good! I feel the same about the ticks. Everytime we go out to the coop I need to run a lint roller over most of it to collect the current tick population. They are disgusting. I am really hoping those roosters are doing something useful out there ;-)

The ticks are driving me mad! Nature is awesome, but I'm really over the parts of it that want to make a meal out of me and my dogs.

Just can't resist sharing a pic of my beautiful ladies. Can you believe they are only half grown? They are turning out just amazing. Next year when these ladies start producing there should be some very happy 4-H ers in my area.
