INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

25 for about $14, $9 if you don't mind waiting a month or so for shipping from China. They dropped the price $4 right after I ordered mine. Figures.

They work well. Even the 2-week old chicks figured them out in a couple of days and I took away their regular waterer.

They are messy if inside. For every drop that goes into the bird, several hit the ground. Outside, no problem. In the hen house, I had to put 17" flower pot trays under the waterers to catch the spillage. The birds drink the spillage from the tray, so it doesn't overflow. Also, you can't put water in the bucket that has debris (grass clippings, hay chaff, etc.) in it. The crud will get caught in the nipple and block it open, draining the bucket.

I am well pleased with how they have worked out. All my birds use the nipple waterers now.

Thanks John! I found some on Amazon and they are similar price and qualify for prime shipping. :)

CountryHen~ When mine were a few weeks old and not quite so "delicate," they began to go outside and be supervised in their chicken tractor, I would get under the tractor with them in the evening and sit at the end. As the temps cooled off as the sun started to set, they'd end up sitting all over me since I was warm! (I pretended they loved me--ha) Anyway, that helped them get more comfortable being around me-- or on me! Then I'd freak them out when I had to put them in a Rubbermaid tub to transport them back in the house for the night.
Thanks Mother2Hens. I do not have a tractor but i read in that "Once upon a flock" book on how to make a little pen for any bird. I think I need to invest into a staple gun because I see many different things made out of hardware cloth in my future :) oh, and a really good pair of work gloves!

OK here is my updates with my newest poults, they are almost a week old now, 4 Royal Palm. Faded black bands showing on only 2 of them on the wings.

My first guinea keet to hatch:

They have a silver tint, with darker silver stripes. Parents are a white cock, and either a pearl or white hen. Very pretty light silvery color.. my silly phone camera is showing it to be more lite tan. 2 of 3 are out.I took out the first little guy when I added water, he was jumping out of the "breed box", and vaulting over the goose eggs

So he was moved in with my late hatch chick from last week, just a day older. I was worried he would injure his legs with all the jumping!

Adorable! I thought the turkeys looked like ducklings at first glance then I saw the point in their beak :)

All these pics are too cute! I just set my second batch of eggs on saturday. 9 columbian plymouth rock. I was really wanting some of these so hopefully everything goes great and i get a good hatch.

I have a Production RIR Fully grown roo you can have. I have a very nice blue laced BLRW. He is very large. He looks like this picture from google images. But He is DH's roo so I think I would need $5 or so. not bad for a full grown roo but not free so I understand if you don't want him.

I also have HRIR chicks, it will be a few months but I know I will have an extra roo to sell.

Good heavens I want that bird! He is so pretty!

Another weekend down and the coop still isn't finished. Sigh. We got a lot done on Saturday and I was so happy that we didn't end up with more rain like they were forecasting. We do not need any more water. Friday night we got about 6 inches in a matter of a few hours. It was one of the heaviest rains I've ever seen here. Really hoping we miss out on the thunderstorms we're supposed to get later in the week. I have way too much to get accomplished outside.

Here is where we left off with the coop on Saturday. We were really hoping to work on is some more on Sunday, but as you can see by the picture, our yard was a bit out of control so we ended up using Sunday to take back out yard from nature. I felt like I was waging a personal war on the ticks. It felt good. So, the plan is to have the coop done and the chickens in it by next Sunday. We figure we can get the sheeting done this week, windows and door in, and worry about aesthetics after the chicks are out of the house. I'm guessing we won't have their run completed until the weekend after though. Are there any issues with making them stay inside the coop for a week? We are going to have 5 windows plus roof venting, so I don't think heat should be an issues. I suppose we could always rig something up so that they can go under the coop until the run is done. My only regret about not getting more done is that I really wanted to pick up some guineas at the swap this weekend, but I think I'm going to have to wait. The last thing we need are guineas in the house as well!

Your coop is looking really good! I feel the same about the ticks. Everytime we go out to the coop I need to run a lint roller over most of it to collect the current tick population. They are disgusting. I am really hoping those roosters are doing something useful out there ;-)

Old Salt (John) thank you for the suggestions. I will definitely work on it. This morning I got out the race day earplugs so I could sleep from 5:30-7 and if I can clip my bullmastiff's toenails, I can probably do a banty's beak.

Mother2Hens- They do seem to be an ungrateful lot. Maybe they didn't witness what happened to the others before I got there. Yesterday I called my husband out to see one of them about 40 feet up in a tree (I don't know why I thought they'd stay closer to the ground) and he looked out and said "Is that a rooster on my car?" Um, no honey, that's a hen....My husband has an FJCruiser that has a brand new paint job on it due to a tree limb. Turns out they really like the roof rack.
