I passed a semi hauling turkeys this evening!! I may have to go back to being a vegetarian!!! It was an open semi and I could see them all, going down the highway at 70 mph! Most were missing huge patches of feathers, and of course they were stacked 10 high. Yuk and ugh!!

Racin- yes I want to see your water set up too. We do rain barrels but its for plants. I'm up for anything that'll help!

Enjoying all the coup pics. When my DH gets back from this business trip I hope to start on my dream coup!! Right now everybody is in the barn. It's working but not as secure as I would like and certainly not pretty!!

awwww that is so sad. When I was on my way to a chicken show I stopped and at a waffle house and saw a semi full of meat chickens. I don't remeber who I was withh, but I said I was going to go open the semi and let them all go. My luck they would just sit there and not run. I didn't feel like getting arrested, so I didnt lol (jk I wouldnt really do it anyways). But I new where they were going
......the frying pan if you know what I mean.

I've seen semis hauling birds before but these looked bad and now that I have chickens it's opened my eyes even more. I've always been an animal softy!! Don't like seeing hogs or cattle being hauled to market either!!

I love the royal palms I just bought 6 poults last week. And I still have 3 toms 2 of which I have been trying to rehome. (But that's another story) your babies are adorable! Even the keat. I have 9 guineas eggs In the incubator but iv had so much trouble with humidity levels idk if they will hatch and iv not candled them lately to busy or tired.

Ok this is crazy! That was suppose to be a quote. My phones doesn't like me using this site. Very uncooperative! I tried to post in the peacock forum and nope. Oh and the semi hauling turkeys. That is sad! It doesn't make me want to be vegetarian just makes me not want to eat store bought meat. If I raise my own birds for consumtion I no that they had a good life was cared for and was taken care of. My problem with places that raise animals for that purpose is the way they handle them. And I'm sure not all places treat their animals poorly but you never no? And that's just my opinion I'm not trying to start a big debate lol

Hey, guys, I was busy all day digging, and so I didn't check on the chicks until about a half hour ago. Rangi had hopped out of the brooder, but I didn't check on them at all today and so I don't know when she did it. She's been without food, water, or heat for however long, though, and she was acting pretty lethargic and felt a bit lighter. I got water in her, but she won't eat. Does anyone know if I should try to get food in her tonight, or if I should just let her sleep and see if she'd better by morning? I'm worried sick about her. She's my baby.

ETA: She seems okay now that she's had some water in her for a little while. I'm just going to let her sleep and hope for the best.

I have a soft spot for animals too. I wish I could become a vegitarian (i know i spelled that wrong), but i just like hamburgers, bacon, and yes....chicken

(but never one that was my pet or that I know was someone elses pet).

OK here is my updates with my newest poults, they are almost a week old now, 4 Royal Palm. Faded black bands showing on only 2 of them on the wings.



My first guinea keet to hatch:


They have a silver tint, with darker silver stripes. Parents are a white cock, and either a pearl or white hen. Very pretty light silvery color.. my silly phone camera is showing it to be more lite tan. 2 of 3 are out.I took out the first little guy when I added water, he was jumping out of the "breed box", and vaulting over the goose eggs

So he was moved in with my late hatch chick from last week, just a day older. I was worried he would injure his legs with all the jumping!

pipd: hope rangi is all better in the morning! that same thing happened to me a couple of months ago with my original flock who are now 3 mos old. None of them seemed to be really harmed by it and were back to normal within like 2 mins after putting them back into the brooder

I have now been found out about my little escapade yesterday...but my boyfriend was really bent out of shape about it. I think his chicken math is a lot different than mine. If only he knew what I was planning for next chickie season!!!!
