Congradulatoins!!! Is this your first hatch? I have hatched eggs 3 times and on 4th hatch and I have never seen an egg hatch in my incubator. I see one is hatching come back in a little bit to check on it and it is already out. I have seen eggs hatch at the state fair, but it isnt nearly as cool as seeing it happen in your own incubator. I hope you get to see one hatch!

At 4 I'm going to my poultry leader house to get 3 of my chickens blood tested
I hope that you get good results. When I blood test my flock to check for diseases, I hate having to stick them with a needle. But I know it isn't painful, just like a human testing their blood sugar. I dont know how long it will take, but maybe when you get back you will have a chick!

Candled my Cream Legbar eggs on day 10. 7 for 7 on seeing movement!!!

Don't know how I am going to go control myself from looking again till day 18! Although keeping up on posts here can take up a good bit of time.

Hi there fellow Hoosiers, ChickenIndy again. Thought I would post an update on our Greenwood Zoning/Oridence struggle.

We built a Chicken Tractor last weekend and transported it and our flock of 4 Hens to my parents house on Indy's South Side where chickens are allowed. They have adjusted to the move beautifully and seem to love the Tractor. I think the fresh grass, insects, and worms help. I need to figure out a roosting bar for the tractor and put on the wheels for easier moving.

I have setup a Greenwood Chickens Facebook page and have three dozen likes so far. We have around 5 people in Greenwood who are offering support thus far, so thats a great start!

This Indiana BYC forum looks to be an active place! If you have a minute please check out our photos and story on Facebook and click Like .

If you can share it on your page to get it out there, that would be wonderful!

We hope to write our City Councilman once we drum up more support. Thank you all!

Lol tell her thank you! Mine was dry too. The girls really didn't like the rain so they went under the coop.

We haven't gotten any rain up here- it was cloudy this morning but the sun came out this afternoon. I don't mind the rain, just not the storms again for awhile. My nerves can't take my dog going crazy again.

OK people...I have a chick dilemma. One of my BLRW has splayed leg. I don't know how she got it-- there is a couple of inches of bedding in the brooder. She's not eating that I can see. Probably not drinking either. When I went out there this morning she was laying on her back with all of the other chicks on top of her. Even when they moved away, she just laid there. I picked her up and she wouldn't stand up in my hand or anything. I put her back down in front of the food, she just stood there doing the splits.

I don't want to kill her. she will starve to death and/or dehydrate (ie suffer).

Thought I'd ask all the wise people here before I go look elsewhere.

bandaid the legs together for the sprayed leg issue. Keep the pad part between the legs as a spacer, it might take two bandaids.
if she was under the others she may have internal injuries. But for the not drinking eating thing, try force feeding water with that chick saver package from TSC that looks like a yeast package. Or use sugar water.

Also separate her and one other bird to keep her company.

Pip--thanks for the info on the frizzle gene! Like I said, it's been a looong time, and as they say, "memory is the first to go and I can't remember the second."

Danand, RK has Corid, I think both liquid and powder.

BirdyLady3, I haven't been getting emails always either. Knowing how chatty we are, I started checking every day anyhow.

The tales about the roost wars brought up a memory. I had a bantam cochin cock that I called Farouk, as he was king of the coop, large fowl not withstanding. He had HIS place on the roost and no question about it. One evening he was slow getting in because he was following me hoping for treats. When he went in, HIS place was taken. Shortly thereafter I heard a squawk and fluttering, then another, etc. He started at the other end where there was a space and knocked chickens off one by one until he reached his assigned seat.

Yesterday when I went out to feed, my gray silkie pullet was caught in the corner of her pen and the cockerel was nowhere to be seen. Finally found him by my opal peafowls' pen wanting to get in to the feed and water. Something had to really frighten them for them to squeeze into that tiny opening where the sides of the pen meet. I had heard the dogs go crazy in the night, so some critter must have tried to sneak into the yard and then thought better of it. Everyone else was present and accounted for in all the pens.

Ok I got good results from the blood test :) when I got home my chicken all my chicken ended getting out of the coop I started freaking out I dont think I'm missing any ....and Big Mama is starting to growl at me lol I took her off the nest 2 times today she went back on after she ate some food
