Kaphyper~ I LOVE Gus, the teapot rooster! His markings are beautiful and his tail looks really cool, too. He's very artsy looking. : - )

Old Salt~ Your Lab doggy is beautiful. I also meant to mention a while back when you posted your grandson's photo because he just got his driver's license that he is a handsome dude (I'm sure he takes after you! Hopefully, just in looks and not in his philosophies.) Ha!!

bradselig~ We HAVE to see a photo of you driving a car full of guineas!!!! hahahaha

SkinNFluff & pipd~ These lawn chairs will grow up healthy!

He is only 4 months, He sits like that all the time. He is a weirdo. I can barely carry him around anymore. He's so big. I hope he keeps getting prettier. Not bad I guess for a TSC chick.

I have several tinfoil hats. One in each room in the house and 1 in each the barn, truck, and hen house. Actually, not really tin. I use lead foil to protect even against Superman's x-ray vision. He isn't really fictional. Or, possibly alien technology.

A fire truck just went by with siren blaring and the chickens all ran back into the hen house. Now it's quiet and they are back outside. First time I've ever noticed that.

I tried the vanilla extract on the dog's injured ear to keep away the gnats. I didn't have the real stuff, only imitation. I dumped some in my hand. She licked up some of it. Then I rubbed my hands together and then rubbed it on her ear. It worked. Plus, she smells better than the infected smell and her breath is much improved. Next, I'll have to rub some on her butt. Ewwwwwhhhhh. Gnats aggravating her there, too.

you need a misting bottle. They are typically sold in the hair section at the dollar store. Then all you have to do is mix the vanilla 50 / 50 with water and mist the dog anywhere you don't want to touch. I had the water so that it sprays better and saves a little money too. I have the real stuff though as I like the taste better in some of the cookies I make in the winter.

I hope you all get feeling better too.

Welcome to the Indiana Thread housekat!
As far as building your coop on a concrete slab, the main consideration is drainage-- does a heavy rain flood the area, etc.

Welcome to the Indiana Thread stevekwan! Not sure about store locations-- you could Google. Check out craigslist for sale farm and garden, BYC classifieds, and perhaps there's a BYC Sussex Thread. Maybe some Indiana members from your area can help. I'm on my iPad, so I doubt the members list link shows up under my post, but you can use the link from jchny2000's recent post to see the Indiana members who live near you or those who have Sussex chickens.

CRSelvey, I have a galvanized hanging water thingy in our coop and I don't have problems with leaks/wet coop. It's fairly heavy with water in it, so it doesn't swing or spill. (I always have a bowl of water available outside of the coop when they're out for the day.

Animallover-- Great job! Congrats on your accomplishments. Can't wait to see more chick pix.
Thank you. That probably is better than the plastic one. I was thinking about getting one of these for outside:
http://chickenfountain.com/ and maybe a single to go on a soda bottle for the inside. We just aren't quite that far yet. Ultimately, I want something that needs little maintenance if we go out of town for up to a week. Now that our kids are in school, I seem to be able to go less, but I keep trying, lol.
Also, if you are still working on your chicks name, Elizabeth, Kate, and Diana are all available. Just because she's a little awkward now doesn't mean she will be in the future

I maybe making a trip down south to Greencastle, IN from the Ft Wayne area in a week and a half or so. I don't mind playing chicken train if need be. So if you need birds or eggs picked up or dropped off along the way, I maybe able I help. I'll be traveling along I69 to 465 to I70. Of course if its not to far out of the way I can take other routes. I should know for sure within a week if I'm heading down. Let me know if anyone could benefit from this.

Brad, so does that mean you are going to stop by and help finish the coop???

You know you want too, lol.
