INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Well had to break up a fight!! A BIG FIGHT!!! My top rooster beat up the new one. Cut his waddles up bad. He had blood all over him. Brought him in gave him a bath and coated the waddles with flour to stop the bleeding. I have him in a cage inside for the night. Will try introducing them again tomorrow. Whats strange is the new rooster has spurs that is at lease a 1inch long and the other only really has nubs. So im guessing he got him with the beak. My top rooster didnt have any blood on him at all except little on the feet. The new rooster must be brave trying to go right up to the top of the order. He wasnt going to back down for nothing.

Oh wow cluckacres, sounds like the new one will keep his ground and get to the top eventually. Too bad he got so cut up, bet it was traumatic for everyone in the coop. Maybe fence him off so they can see eachother for a bit.

Thats what i was going to do tomorrow. Just leave him in a cage sitting outside for a little while.

thank you but I'm not trying to wait till then that's why I am looking now if you can't help thank you anyway maybe somebody else can. I have 4 and a half acres but will only free range while I am home. meanwhile they will have a 12 by 16 foot coop. Im trying to get a 1 month head start or better on egg production if anyone else has any ideas I would greatly appreciate them thank you.

INCUBATING EGGS DAY 7

Just candled all 25 eggs. 3 are showing clear as of right now. So if I can do math right that is 22 good eggs with veining. There is a bunch of them with movement as well!!

And apparently my spell ck is on overload! I am a friend of pbridheaven. We live about 4 miles apart. I was going to order some chick this morning. First time! And would love input on hatcheries. I wanted to use Meyers since its fairly close but McMurry has more of what I want. Ideas?

Welcome, friend!

I'm not a good reference on hatcheries, as I've only ordered once. That was from McMurray about 2 years ago. Half of the chicks died within 2 days. Of course, they will replace them, but they fill in the rest of the 25 with cockerel chicks, so I just took a store credit, which I've never used. Others may have had a better experience, but I don't order from hatcheries any more.

Daily Feed and Grain east of Columbus will be hosting the Bartholomew 4-H club's chick days on February 9. Depending upon what you're looking for, they usually have some nice chicks. I probably will check in there to replenish my layer flock, as they're getting some age on them.
