INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I just realized that I won't have eggs to sit in my incubator for a while.  I have a couple of different sets of eggs in an incubator the last of which will hopefully hatch by July 11th.  Then it is looking like it will be at least the middle of September before I have a rooster that will produce fertile eggs.

I guess now is the time to start planning how many chickens I want to keep for winter and when to hatch out the chicks I want to start laying next spring.

Does this meani can rent space in your incubator? Haha

Yesterday I put eggs in the incubator.BBS bantam ameraucana eggs that I got from littleameraucanamom(thanks again). They should hatch somewhere around the 13-14th of july. I wish I would of set some eggs so that they would hatch on july 4th so that I could of had 4th of july babies.O well.

And I have a question.Has anyone ever had an incubator catch on fire or start a fire?I have mine plugged into a surge protector.I havent had one catch on fire and mine works just fine, it is just something I have kind of always worried about.

Never heard of one catching fire before. But mine are plugged into surges also.

Is anyone close to Dubois County (Southern Indiana) that is willing to give away / sell chicks yet? I had a horrific week of racoons getting most of my flock and I am down to 6 chickens. This is just not enough!! PM me with any info! Thanks!

FWIW, July 14th is Bastille Day, the French equivalent to our 4th of July.
