INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

finished the inside ofb the nest boxes. Got some interesting clucks as they checked it out. Placed golf balls.... maybe they were wondering where the "eggs" came from. First time the rooster pecked my sons finger. Didn't break skin, and Iwarned him to stay away since Mr. Peeps has been hormonal. My son said he should change his name to Mr. Pecker. I guess that's the worst thing he could come up with as he is 3 yrs old. Good luck to all when the storms get close tonight.

Our RIR roosters have pecked my husband but not me or the children. I don't let the children get near the roosters unless my husband is holding them and I think the roosters are scared of me now. I chased them around the yard a few time when they started fluffing around me and trying to show dominance. And my children loved watching me grab the garden how and run after the roosters. It was not long before they joined in. But my husband just corners a rooster and picks it up, not caring if he gets pecked or not.
Our other rooster is scared of leaves falling out of trees. I have never seen him make an aggressive move. He is gaining weight though. I keep thinking what a nice crockpot chicken.

I told them not to stoop down to him, I will just have to show them how to defend themselves. They were in the coop watching them from the pop door. That rooster has been territorial of the coop lately. Is there a time frame that he will calm down, or will I have to work on him for a while till he stays away from the kids?

My GLW rooster, Red has been a sweetheart so far, he is about 9 months old. I still hold him, pick him up... he will hop on my lap.
My Embden gander, Big G is a different story. I have had to pick him up, flip him on his back and pin him on my lap. He is at least 30 pounds, not an easy task for me weighing about 100 pounds lol! He has bit every one of us at some point the last 2-3 months and has flogged my youngest (20)! I snatch his attitude right up and pin him upside down. DH and DDs are now doing it too. its working. I won't trust him around small children. He may wind up in the freezer if the attitude adjustments fail.. we will see. He has been amazing at protecting the flock, i would hate to give him up. On a happier note, his mate, WeeWee was acting odd. would pace into the main coop, run back out and run in again. New honks i never heard out of her before. She had something for me to see, so i caught on and went in there.

I was so proud of her, but very surprised she wanted me to see!

Dad said its small, WOW the yolk alone is bigger than a chicken egg. Not fertile yet. I have 4 goose, 2 gander so hoping the fertility picks up quickly.

All my roosters are nice and never once tried to peck anyone. When i call them they come and let me pick them up. Some times they come then run away from us tho. lol Some of my roosters are 2 years old and we have a few hens that are around 4 years old. I have been pecked on my teeth tho. I was holding a hen and she looked at my teeth and pecked. I dont know if that was a kiss or just saw shiny teeth. As an update on my roosters fighting it has came to a end. They get along now since my talk. I must be the chicken whisperer.

As far as "Turk" the tom he is still just sitting in the pen not moving much at all. He is eating tho. I think tomorrow morning i will get him out and put him down in the yard for a bit to see what he does. His good leg is swollen a bit as well.

Tooo funny, glad the arguments are over! You are the chicken whisperer for sure!
Best wishes for your poor tom. I saw somewhere, you tube maybe? someone had a little wagon for a dog, it was missing hind legs. The dog scooted all over with it. Wonder if you could dream up a "tom scooter"?

I have that incubator. Love it. My temp doesnt vary either. Well it does some what sometimes but its for the good not the bad. It will sit at 100 all day but every once in awhile it will go to 102 which is really what i need it to be since mine is just the still air. I dont have the fan or the egg turner but and thinking of getting the turner soon. My only downfall on it is with out the turner the eggs seem to want to roll towards the center. So it makes it little more difficult to keep them still so you can keep track of how they are being turned. I do the dry incubation method day 1-18 and the humidity stay around 35% on its own on the last 3 days i do put some water in it. I give this incubator a 4 star. Now there is some people that really dont like it because they say it the temp jumps all around on them. I think it really depends on where you have it sitting. Mine sits in my living room between a window and front door and a heater vent across from it. Mine still stays at a constant temp. Hope this helps you out. I will be in the market for post and fencing soon as well so im all ears about where to find the cheapest as well.

I think the trick is what you are saying. keep it free of drafts. The area I do all my critter stuff is somewhat drafty, its just a mudroom/breezeway that joins both houses. heated and insulated, no drywall in there. So the still air wouldn't work right for me. Once the bators arrive, hope we can start planning hatchalongs!

Going to hit price comparing hard this week, I will find our best deal on T posts. so far Lowes is ahead on the "cattle" fencing prices. Menards is cheaper but always out of stock.
