INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

And apparently my spell ck is on overload! I am a friend of pbridheaven. We live about 4 miles apart. I was going to order some chick this morning. First time! And would love input on hatcheries. I wanted to use Meyers since its fairly close but McMurry has more of what I want. Ideas?

Well had to break up a fight!! A BIG FIGHT!!! My top rooster beat up the new one. Cut his waddles up bad. He had blood all over him. Brought him in gave him a bath and coated the waddles with flour to stop the bleeding. I have him in a cage inside for the night. Will try introducing them again tomorrow. Whats strange is the new rooster has spurs that is at lease a 1inch long and the other only really has nubs. So im guessing he got him with the beak. My top rooster didnt have any blood on him at all except little on the feet. The new rooster must be brave trying to go right up to the top of the order. He wasnt going to back down for nothing.
Oh my, hope you are ok! Thats rough to get in the middle of. They may never make buddies.. if they are both alpha, they may very well kill each other trying to "win". Daily exposure with restraint may work with time, wish you luck.
GOOO little chickies to be!

Im just fine. when i stepped in between they stop and stare at me. They know i mean business. My chickens are very well behaved and follow me everywhere i go and believe it or not they actually listen. The last time i stepped in between them they stop fighting and i had a good talk with them. I had one rooster on one knee and the other on my other knee holding them. I told them they shouldnt fight like that. Meaning being to rough. And I also told them if they didn't behave then I would have to put them both in time out. I said I understand your just showing who is boss and trying to fight for pecking order. Well after that long talk with them i put them down and they each went different directions. One rooster stayed on one side of the house and the other stayed on the other side. I had to go to work so i asked my wife to keep an eye on them. When i got home she said as crazy as this may sound your talk must have worked. They didnt have any more problems the rest of the day. They both are even in the same coop together tonight. She also told me when one rooster would crow the other would crow right after and like i said they stayed on opposite sides of the house. lol I hope they still get along tomorrow.

I will take pics of the hatching for everyone!!

Sorry I gell off the thread for a while. Been crazy at work! Got a hatch this week thursday! Yay. Anybody close by is welcome to inquire. Chickies come from what I gather from each purebred pen and make rainbow eggers! The girls and guys have been loving the weather. Though i swapped out my French blue marans for the other roo and now the lightr blue guy is very angry! I wanted a chance for the other blue to get some action but the light blue one has developed a major attitude now almost as if he is truly mad i took him away from his women! oh well he needed a break hes a sex machine im sure he will get over it? Anyone else had this issue..ggenerally he was a sweet boy but oh boy not now! Hes very angry.

how do i indroduce Princess Jewels. the day i got her i put her in the coop when the rest of my chickens roosted when i went to check on her in the morning (little brother and sister checked too) she was sitting under the roost being pecked at and didnt come out into the run. i have her inside right now cuz shes got a little cold going on (like me). when i get home i was thinking letting her outside get some fresh air and let the other chickens check her out on the other ide of the fence... if i do this how long will it take to get the others used to her?

it all really depends. I would put them together and just keep an eye on them. They will peck at her because she is new. What breed is she anyways? does she look different then the rest of your flock? If so they will peck at her because she is different too. Plus you have to remember there is a pecking order in your flock. They will peck at each other to let each other know where they stand. I hope this helps you out some. Any more questions feel free to ask.

my chickens seem to be calmer in the evening. Maybe wait till dusk and add her to the group's run. Or you might even try adding her to the roosting bars once everyone is inside.
