Is everyone enjoying that beautiful weather today? I got quite a bit done out there today. It's just fun working with chickens, don't you think?

It was lovely! Spent all day outside with the critters. fresh bedding, got a good look at all my birds to make sure all are healthy.
My ducks and geese spent most of the afternoon in the pond. The Embden were looking a little grundgy, but now they are white and shiny again lol. I love watching the ducks diving and splashing. they stayed in a lot longer than the geese.

I am not IN Indiana, but very close. I am 5 minutes from the line in Darke County OH. Do you mind if I join you?
If anyone is looking for extremely rare breeds, I have almost all of the breeds from Greenfire Farms available. My own personal favorite is the Cream Legbar. I am the Eastern Regional Director for the brand-new Cream Legbar Club, and IN would be one of the states in my region. If you are interested in any of the breeds or the CLC, send me a pm!

I've been putting straw over the mud. It helps, but I'm not sure how it's going to go when it's time to clean it up.

If anyone has better ideas I'd love to hear them, too!

ugh me too. The outside run was a mudpit when the snow melted. With the rain tonight it will be a mess again.. hope to someday cover the whole thing with a tin roof at least.

I havnt been on here all day. Been outside working on coop and playing with the chickens then had family come over ate pizza and drank 27 year old wine that have been stored in the basement. It was so good. We drank 3 bottles between 3 of us and gave 8 bottles away as gifts and still have around 20 bottles left. It is getting muddy out and its a mess outside. Did have a very upsetting this happen today tho. My chickens went across the road into the corn field and then a truck came flying down the road I yelled at the chickens and told them to stay and the truck got closer and I noticed my best Polish rooster was along side of the road I went running towards the road before i could make it the rooster decided he was going to be brave and try to beat the truck well he didnt make it and got hit and saw him just bounce down the road. I ran up to him with tears in my eyes and picked him up. His neck was broke. I put him in my arms and took him into the yard holding his head up. He didnt make it so I will have to bury him tomorrow morning. Thats the downfall of free ranging. I will be buying signs that say chicken crossing and put them on both corners of the property. Most people that usually drive this road know we have chickens and come through slowly with caution. I have never seen this truck before and he didnt even slow down or even stop to say he was sorry and I know he knew he hit him. Little bit later that same truck came flying by again and still didnt slow down. It would of been nice if he would of at least stopped and said sorry. I am down to only 1 polish now and its a rooster so I really need to get some polish hens soon.

R I P BIG BOY!!!!!! This pic is about 3 months old.

He was just precious. I have been lucky so far, but i worry about that too. We have a county road on the east end of the property, I scare the living daylight out of the birds if they go over there.. But It still worries me. My guinea were the worst about it, but the 3 boys that did cross are since rehomed.
