Another fermenting feed question. Are bugs attracted to it? I have done the sourdough bread and bugs are attracted to it, so much so that i gave it up.

You said you thought she might have had pneumonia...what makes you think that? Are you able to - or know someone that is able to - do an "autopsy" to see what might have been the problem?

she was coughing/sneezing really bad and she ussaly just layed down and if i have her get an autopsy i would take her the prudue thing and we dont have the money for that ....so no i dont know anyone

A couple of folks indicated interest in incubating peafowl eggs. I have been incubating them for about 7 years. They are trickier than chickens and the survival rate is not as good, although with proper care, you can have a good hatch.
One thing that I learned is that the eggs have to be turned by hand as well as by the turner; if they aren't turned completely over, they won't develop properly.
If I can figure out how to do it, I'll attach a story and picture of one of the chicks from my first hatch who had to have some orthopedic work.

I was just given 3 cocks and five hens from the Greenville Park. They had about 22 and needed to pare back a good bit so they gave them to me for free-all because I asked about eggs!

I haven't been on here in FOREVER it seems. Looking for a few eggs or chicks in the Naked Neck variety. I'm in Goshen, and still have a small mixed flock of bantams.

yea. My intentions are to butcher and if. Like ill start raising jumbos for meat. Didnt expect them t be that cute. Thankfully I don't think they are cute as adults.

They are very simple to butcher-especially if you skin them!

How many do you have in the incubator cluckacres?

I have 29 in now. No Silkie's this time tho they stopped laying again. Only 1 easter egger as well. All the others i do have in are mostly australorp, buff orpington, barred rock, golden comet, 1 blue cochin/silkie mix. There is prolly a few from other breeds as well but not sure. I think I have 1 copper maran in there too.

late summer i had some nats and i took it all to the house. now its not a problem. we will see come spring, i hate the fruit flies. eww bugs knats forget that.

I would recommend either finding some from a breeder or going to a swap rather than getting keets from a hatchery if you're new to brooding. There will be some good swaps and shows coming up before long. Many are listed at Poultry Show Central http://www.poultryshowcentral.com/.
A couple that aren't on there yet are the Knox, Indiana, swaps the 2nd Sunday in May, June, September, and October, and the Milton Kentucky (right across the river from Madison) swaps Mother's Day weekend and Labor Day weekend. Those two are always hard to find information about.
The Craigslist suggestion is good also.

They are pretty cute as adults, too. And wait until you hear the sounds they make!

If you want really cute and adorable hatch some Chinese painted button quail.
