INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I have talked to a few people about buying the eggs. What is your method for the eggs you sell?  do you wash and chill them or sand them and leave them at room temp?

pbirdhaven  Thanks so much for the incubator.  I don't have enough large eggs yet but maybe by Saturday I will have collected enough to try one out.  Thanks so much.
i had tried selling eggs since my hens started laying last summer. Very little interest or I just end up giving away to family or coworkers. In January I posted on a Facebook group for my county where people post things for sale, swap, or wanted. I didn't have any interest at all. About a week ago, I posed some flooring in my album which brought my post to the top. I still had my egg pictures in that album and I had my first sale for 4 dozen eggs. Sadly I just taken in 7 dozen to work. She was willing to wait, which I'm now able to fill the order. However, I have a list of people who have also posted their orders. I'm now up to 25 dozen eggs that I need to fill and the hens are not cooperating! They are all aware that I cannot fill all those orders and will take me a month plus till they are all filled. But I'm still getting orders!

So I would start there! It has worked very well for me! As far as how I sell them, I do it the same way I keep them for myself. I will scrub off any dirt and debris and store in the fridge, if they are heavily soiled, I will wash them.

Moved 14 eggs into the LG bator for lockdown! 8 true araucana, 1 silkie, 3 gold/silver Campine, and 2 Marans! More eggs will follow on Wednesday!

I have 2 LG bators I'm using as hatchers since I have staggered hatcher. One is forced air, the newer one is a still air. Is there a preference as to which is better for hatching? So far, the still air is easier to get the humidity higher. I'm just curious.

Agreed on the humidity, I had a bad problem with it, there were a few times it dropped to 15% on me on the first hatch, mine are the forced air LG's also.

the babys seem to be walking just fine they love standing on there feeder and digging in the bedding lol

Good! I'm not sure what to think about the feathering on the bellies. You might try coming over the the Natural Chicken Keeping thread and see if any of the long-time chicken keeping people might have an idea on that. I'll put a link to the last comment (as of now) so you can go right to the end and post. Put your photo up and tell 'em I sent you

I think i will end up with only 3 campine as well. I candled mine last night and looks like 2 stopped growing.

Hi everyone! My name is Nichole. Just getting started this year with chickens, we wanted to do it last spring but....well, it just wasn't in the cards. I live in Fortville, outside city limits, and I am very much looking forward to getting into these chicks. Been reading and researching on and off for the last year. If anyone in the area has any chicks for sale coming up in the near future, I think we'd like to start with about a half dozen. I'd also love some feedback on what breeds are doing well in our specific area, and laying well, even in the cool dreary days. I was thinking I would like to start with Rhode Island Reds....?

Out of my first hatch, 2 had actually started to stick to the shells. I did get the humidity up 3 days before hatch, used damp paper towel on the bottom of the bator. it stayed around 65-70%. I think the problem was it was too low during incubation. Hoping better luck with the full bator, those are my sussex eggs, EE, GLW and BR.

What about the bedding that Animallover is using? Maybe she needs more or softer. All of mine look good and I have a good amount of bedding.

i do have 1 question.... I noticed some of mine have lost some butt fuzz and are bare. Is this normal? They are all clean

EE and GLW I can say are doing great here. They laid pretty well straight through, except during the molts. I have BA, and LO's growing up now and hatching GLW, EE and Coronation Sussex, Check out the Breed section of the forum here:
