INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

If they are only eating chick food that is processed, then they don't need grit. But when you start feeding veggies, insects, whole grains, ect they will need grit to properly digest the food. Oyster shells are only for adults when they start laying. I believe too much calcium can cause kidney issues?

2 of the 14 eggs have hatched so far. I don't see anything going on with the other 12 eggs. I'm starting to get nervous!

Its really exciting! When was the first pip?

The first one pipped yesterday at ay 20 and hatched early morning today. I got up at 7 and checked and it was still very wet. I could see the other egg rocking and heard peeps last night and this morning, and hatched while I was gone for about 30mins. I did not even see a pip on that egg.

Then I might hold off on the mealworms for awhile until we get ready to put them outside. As for the too much calcium it could cause problems, but I never had any problems with it. As for the oyster shell being only for adults, I don't give that much to my young ones. I only give them a pinch or two. The adults get half a seed cup full.
