INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I got moldy feed at orchelien in corydon indiana. Hubby had been feeding them cause I was working, today after supper I grabbed the feed pail and went to scoop some feed and it had large corn cob sized and smaller chunks of hard moldy feed. I screamed and ran out to the coop and dumped their feed out into a bucket and sure enough the large chunks were in the feeder....
i need help knowing what to look for..signs the girls are ill or how long I have to keep a eye out..when will I know the danger is past.

I'm hoping my fellow Hoosiers can help me find the info I have been searching here my i can't figure out the search engine here. The threads that pop up don't match my search quest.

Im so upset and appreciate any help advice or knowledge you can pass on to me on this subject.

At the top of the page is a blank search space. I typed in "moldy food" and it came up with lots of other post and info. Sorry I don't know how to do links yet

So I'm starting to lose hope on the first batch. Today is day 22 and no new activity from the eggs. I still have 11 unmatched eggs in that bator. Ill probably let it go another day or two and then the float test. I think my main incubator is fine. I saw many chicks moving around when I candled right before placing them in the hatching incubator. Maybe the issue is with the hatching incubator? The two araucana and Campine are doing fine though. When I woke up this morning, the Campine had stuck his head through the shell and that was it. I ended p helping him and his feathers ended up stuck to him (sticky chick?). So after I got home and noticed this, I pulled him out and gave him a sponge bath. Heis looking better but still needs another bath.

On a good note, I have 3-4 birchen Marans in the other bator already pipping! Hoping this hatch is better than the first!

I also stopped into Orschlens today (as well as TSC and BigR but didn't buy any chicks there) and picked up 5 chicks! 3 were out of their Fry Pan Straight run bin and 2 were from the rainbow layer pullet bin. Ill be posting pictures soon. The layers I have no idea what they are. They are a white/yellow chick with a bluish "vest" on. The fry pan chicks while not 100% I believe one is an Easter egger (probably a male). I really like their colors though lol.

I will help you do links. When you reply or post you will see your toolbar at the top. Has where you can edit your post like color, size and stuff like that. In that toolbar you will see what looks like a world with a chain link on it. you click that and a window pops up you paste your link in there by hitting the keys ctrl and v at the same time. After the like is pasted in that box just click ok and thats it. hope this helps if not let me know.

Sorry to hear about your first batch. Im thinking you are having a humidity problem. so far i have 2 campine hatched and 1 more piped. The mystery eggs are rocking but dont see any pips yet but they are technically on lock down tonight.

I

I had a bag of moldy food, chicks ate it for about 3 days, I was told to discontinue use, buy new, watch for diarrhea, and to add mothers vinegar to their water 1 teaspoon to a gallon of water. I also cleaned out the bedding in case any dropped in it. Then I watched them like a hawk for the next week. I also added probiotics to the water. All chicks are doing great, they still get the mothers vinegar and probiotics.

Good luck and keeps us updated.

I wondered about that as well, but it is right around 60-65%. The hygrometer was calibrated prior to use, but that is he only thing I can think of as well.

Cluck that incubator is looking pretty professional!
Danand, I am so excited to not see them walking in mud... in there house! Also, i keep changing my mind how Iwant to attach the banty house. Should I leave fenced areas where they can all see each other, or not? How high to put their roosts, and I would like to make an area for broodies.

ok when you want to collect fertile eggs. I put them in a carton or in flats. Leave them at room temp and turn them 3 times a day. You can keep fertile eggs up to 10 days. If you are wanting to sell fertile eggs then the cost all depends on breed. What you could do is got to ebay.com and search for hatching eggs. you will see what everyone else is charging for their eggs. also you can go to the buy sell trade tab. Go up to forum and then go to the bottom its says buy-sell-trade. Then click on hatching eggs. here is the link to it. https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/67/buy-sell-trade I hope this helps you out.
ok this did help my dad wants to breed our chickens now cuz i told him that we can get 15-60$ cant wait tell i get my breeding pair of cochins im getting a frizzle rooster and a smooth hen there both going to be black bantams ahh excited
