INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I HATE OPPOSUMS! I caught one in the run... they can fit between 2x4 welded wire... and then I gave it to the dog! I didn't have my .22 then. After I told my dad about it, he gave me an old .22 he had since he was a kid.
I am addicted so much that Ifollow along no matter how many posts I need to read through to catch up. Hoosiers are very interesting and nice people.

Cluck~ I'm glad they don't cull them. Where do you find the deals on the chicks then?

Occasionally Meyers sends out emails with deals. However Ideal tends to always have weekly specials. You usually have to get 25 chicks or 15 ducks (can't remember the min for geese and turkeys) but like last year they had assorted ducks for $1 each! Here recently they had bantam assortments for $0.85 a chick.

Well this hatch is going better than the last. 3 Marans out, the lav Orp is out, several other Marans have pipped as well as Ameraucana! Can't wait to get home from work and see what else has hatched.

Also, I candled a few eggs from the first hatch. The silkie egg was still moving inside! Today is day 23. Is there a time I should start chipping away at the shell to help? Or just let nature run its course? What is everyone's opinions?

I

I had a bag of moldy food, chicks ate it for about 3 days, I was told to discontinue use, buy new, watch for diarrhea, and to add mothers vinegar to their water 1 teaspoon to a gallon of water. I also cleaned out the bedding in case any dropped in it. Then I watched them like a hawk for the next week. I also added probiotics to the water. All chicks are doing great, they still get the mothers vinegar and probiotics.

Good luck and keeps us updated.

Thanks everything is fine with them this morning , I already add vinegar to the water with the mother.

I lost my Polish chick over night. So frustrating makes me want to bawl!!

Since bringing him home he has has continual pasty butt, but seemed to be thriving. Having to clean his behind 4 times a day. Although checking him this morning I see no build up, but I assume he was having some internal problems that a clean up and yoghurt was just putting a band aid on.

My last check on the chicks was around 2am before I headed to bed and they were all doing the diving airplane stretch.

Going to spend they day pouting knowing that my four remaining are looking good but might not be out of the woods yet.

I am so sorry to hear, hope the rest are ok.

Brad, can you tell if there's an internal pip to the air sac yet?

Yeah. It was very weird.

Of course, there are some ugly chickens out there... maybe they thought it was a silkie

****hee hee.... I am going to pay for that one!

and before everyone goes and gets their knickers in a twist... I was just kidding. I mean, who could say something mean about a silkie?

It's naked necks that are half bald!

Laughing is good, keeps us young!

In all seriousness though, I would have freaked out. Had one in our garage one year when I was a kid, she nested up against the back of our freezer, where it was warm. My dad found her after opening our freezer and the meat was gone, as in bad. He pulled the freezer out and there she was with her babes. Boy was Dad mad! She was using the wires to nest with along with alot of the insulation I'm guessing. Lost a whole freezer of deer that year, on top of all the beef. Did not end pretty for them either.
