i've heard that about the raw skins of potatoes? why not though? i put them in our complost piles and the chickens are constantly in there pecking around at them. my chickens like ever scrap, meat, veggies, cake!!!(especially chocolate) my three yo daughter thinks it is fun to feed the chickens what every she may be carrying around eating

Bloonskiller congrats on the new chicks! I don't think I could ever hatch eggs. The wait would kill me! I can get ocd on a some things, and I see red alert on that one! I'll leave all the hatching to you guys/gals, just holler if you have too many XD!

Idk, I've just heard not to. Maybe they are pecking the extra bits of potato off of the skins? I used to throw it out for them, and have them decide. I feel if they have plenty of feed then they can pick and choose what they should have. My chickens know what not to eat. I threw orange peels out in the garden patch (which is just steps from the coop) and they left them alone.

LOL I NEED a coop first! That old shed we were going to use has more damage than we thought. Probably just gonna use some of the stud for the run area out of it. Really just wasted space at this point. My DH would kill me if I got anymore this year. I am aiming for a 8 x 12 coop with a L shaped run. The covered run should have almost 300 square feet. Then maybe I'll be ready for more!

My chickens - and the chickens of lots of other folks I know - have access to my compost pile. They pick through what they want.
