well after having our home burn I think things are starting to turn around. we had a house on a 3/4 acre lot in the middle of town right next to a church.now we have 10 acres and our new home is in the works. it is possible we will be moving in by this weekend. this past 2 months living in a leaky camper has been very rough but we have made it. we can't wait till it warms up a bit more so we can start putting up some fencing and building new coops.

Brad - Can not wait to see the silkies... fatser they hatch the faster we can all see them.

Crafty - Great pictures and break down of the incubator. Might wait til my DH goes out for an entire day and attempt to throw one together. Once it is done, no use wasting it right?

Just to let everyone know the TSC on Brookville Road have had a steady run of mixed Bantams in. Some days have been slim pickings, but they still have them as far as I know.

I am sorry to hear about you losing your house. Can not even begin to imagine having to deal with something like that.

Glad to hear things are looking good for you. Think of all the chickens you can have on 10 acres!!

Thanks for the heads up Vicki! I called them on Monday and they said they were all out, I'll call back again today. I'm really wanting a few bantams to add to the flock, I've become somewhat addicted to chickens lately.

I've got a bit more time now so i'll introduce myself. I've been lurking and reading on this forum for a couple yrs, decided to go ahead and join and start contributing. I live in Morgan Co. southwest of Indianapolis. I've had laying hens for about three yrs, and added some guineas to the flock last year. I've got 8 hens, 3 RIR, 1 easter egger, 1 gold laced wyandotte, 1 austrolorp, and 2 golden comets.

This year I got some chicks from Rural King to add to the laying flock. 2 Light Brahamas, 2 buff orph, 2 California leghorns, and 2 new Hampshire reds. So I will end up hopefully with 16 layers this summer and my 2 remaining crazy guineas.

I also bought 8 of the Cornish rocks from Tractor Supply (1 died, at 7 now) to raise for meat this year. I've never raised/butchered any chickens, thought this would be a small expirement/learning experience.

Do any of you with more experience than myself know what breeds of bantams TSC usually carries? I'm probably going to get some regardless, just wondering what I might expect to receive

Low class~ so glad things are coming along. I couldn't imagine living in a camper in this weather. 10 acres sounds wonderful! Plenty of room for coops. remember, build for more than you expect( chicken math)!

Welcome to the Indiana Thread 4 the Birds! I loved seeing your photos!! So scenic. What kind of goats are those? (I'm not an experienced farm person like most of our members are)

Those are Alpine/Nubian Goats. The chickens often hang out in the goat shed and even lay some eggs under a loafing bench. We would like to get a milking goat. Do you know of any?

I had been doing well, only getting our eggies and meaties then I stumbled upon the last bantams at TSC....now to build a coop expansion.

Also, you guys mix your layers and meat birds or do you keep them separate?

Quick question for everyone. My two chicks keep fighting with eachother. They have food and water and the heat is only about 90. They aren't pecking but they are spreading their wings and running towards eachother. Plus 1 just won't stop cheeping but it's not a distressed cheep. I have sex linked hens but is it possible they could be Roos?
