INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Hey guys and gals!!! I'm from way up in northern Indiana. Lived here all my life. Always lived in town where chickens weren't welcome...

I now live in a small town where they are accepted. I have alot of catching up to do on this thread to see where everyone is from.

Welcome! Where at in northern Indiana are you from?

Hello everyone!

I just moved back to Indiana from the east coast, and will be living in Fishers come late April. I'm interested in getting some chicks to raise on my own so that they'll be very docile and pet-able. My only real obstacle is that I have to get a chicken coop approved by the Neighborhood Association before I can build that or a fence. And that's got me a little nervous. Any advice on dealing with NRs or where I can find some female chicks of a docile and friendly breed?

We have a member's list that you can reference when you're ready for chicks...it lists who has what and from there you could inquire about who has some available. You've joined a great bunch here and always love to help our fellow BYCers!!

I'm not sure what "NR's" are .. elaborate and if I can I will gladly help however I can.
There's a lot of good info here.

The size difference between the coopers and red tail is very noticeable. All the attacks here have been by a Cooper's hawk. I had one d'uccle come up missing last year and came home to another of my red sex link with big gashes on her side. I'm assuming it was the Cooper's hawk and just couldn't carry her away due to her size. Never had an use with red tails, just the coopers. When I first saw it, I thought it was a falcon due to how much smaller it was compared to red tails
Me too! But she showed up 3 weeks later followed by 6 chicks!

Haha! My little OEGB went missing every night but came back in the afternoon before missing again. I sent out on a search and found her under the shed with a nest of 18 eggs lol.

Oops. I meant to write 'neighborhood association'. I'll probably inquire locally about chicks when it's time. But, for now, the battles with the neighborhood association begins! It's a pretty picky group of people from what I understand. They don't even want dog houses in fenced yards. Of course, the fences have to conform to the one kind they like as well. So this might be a little tricky.

Yup, obviously it was hard to take a pic under the shed, but here they were once I got them out. It was comical to see her trying to sit on them all.
