Had to share a pic for the day

So many of you post good pics of your chickens--mine never pose as I want them to.

Anyhow, here are pics of my white polish hen (reserve continental at Bloomington Saturday--brag, brag

) and a WCB bantam pair. The WCB pullet was reserve AOCCL; meant a lot to me because I lost her mother, my favorite, about 2 weeks ago.
I didn't know you had all white ones.
On the turkey eggs < I always just put Heathers eggs right in the turner with the chicken eggs, never did anything special for them.

A few more NEWBIE questions...

Transition to the coop day is coming quickly.

As a nervous chicken mom, I have read, and read, and read, but now I want to know what other people do.

Do you put food and water in the coop or only in the run/outside?

Do you abide by the theory of putting the chicks in the coop for a week without letting them go out in the run, so they know where they should return at night/safe place?

I have essentially two flocks of chickens, but only one coop ready (the coop that is ready is definitely big enough for both flocks, but the county won't let me have them all on one property). Is it okay to put them all together and then divide them later (about 2 weeks to a month)?

Thank you all for your advice!

I have food in my coop, but I personally prefer not to have the water in there in case it spills.

Honestly, even if you lock them in the coop for a while, they'll still get totally lost in the run from my experience, especially if there's a ramp leading up to the door.

And the chickens won't know any difference if you separate them later on, as long as they still have some other birds to flock with.

Hope that helps. :)

I am new to this too, but here is what I did...
Put the feed and water in coop so it is locked up at night and won't attract vermin. Opened the chicks up to the tun first day. They figured out quickly where home is and where to run for safety.
I have nets over my runs to keep the hawks out and electric along the fence line for four legged critters.
Oh, I have converted everyone to 2 liter sipper bottles. They took to them quickly. No messy spilled water in the coop! Love them.

Welcome jaknykym~ You will enjoy this busy Indiana Thread. Just ask anything anytime. Obviously, we don't stay on topic. haha

jchny~ I have been thinking of you. You are pretty amazing to provide healthful food for your family.

strssed mom~ Glad you were able to keep your chickens even though you have to divide them up. (I'm sure your nightmare neighbor will be counting them!) We have a hanging galvanized metal water thingy and a matching one for food. I also always put a bowl of water on the deck during the day. We kept them in the coop for a couple of days, but it wasn't necessary. You'll be supervising them anyway and can direct them into the coop in the evening if your need to.

jhfamily~ Your coop looks nice enough for us all to move in to the Hamm Hotel.

pbirdhaven~ Congrats on your stunning Show Birds!
