Well I just brought the feathered kids in. I have one with a runny nose and sneeze, and being that its supposed to be really cold again this weekend, I figured I would just bring them in. They also hate storms. Come Monday, if its nice, their little stinky butts are back in the coop. I sometimes wish they still were like this...





Side note... Anyone have any silkie pullets they want to rehome? I checked craigslist and nothing. I would like one or two. I have a couple more bantam cochin roos than I wanted, so I need to even out my flock a little, and all I want is a silkie.

Hello, there ! I am Tom from Fort Wayne. I just happened to see that you will if haven't already celebrated your first anniversary in BYC. HAPPY First. I am just in the planning stages of helping my brother and wife's venture into Chicken-ism. I have been trying to find some folks near Fort Wayne or preferably nearer to Columbia City where they will be moving next week. The idea is to hopefully get some first hand observation on how to set up an operation so she can meet any legal issues or etc., though very small. Do you know of any one in this area that might be open to helping us? Best day possible to you.

so since it seems like our community has a knowledge base for everything i need some help!!! i have crawdads digging around my spillway of my pond. in fact they had started the pond to drain. i have tamped their holes and tried to weed all the rocks and things out to deter them from being in the area. nothing works!!! the are draining my acre and half pond, its down a good 8 inches, my spillway pipe has even dropped!! any idea of how to get rid/kill/deter them. i have tried salting the area and even killed all of the grass. i even chlorinated the water to see if that would drive them a way to no avail!!! please help me!!

Ugh! Chicken math just got me! Went to TSC to get some meal worms and ended up with 8 more chicks...told Husband that TECHNICALLY we don't even have chickens yet, due to chicken math......he has officially cut me off until the coop is ready!!!

Bait and trap em and increase sport fish in pond that is the best way

Personally I find a boiling pot of water with a mix of spices and olive oil to be the best way to dispose of mud bugs. Don't forget to suck the heads!

Does anyone near the east side of Indianapols want duck eggs?!?!?!? Found mama duck on the eggs in neighbors back yard. Tried to move it to a better location but mama flew off. Moved the eggs just a few feet away from the dogs but I don't think she will come back for em. So if anyone wants ducks pm me. Here's a pic of the mom.

She was very beautiful with a blue stripe on her back.

Yes I have a mesh tarp on the top of the dog run to keep the hawks out. We got a metal dog kennel around the coop because we have coyotes come threw occasionally too. There isn't a specific reason for using all organic other than I try to buy organic as much as possible for us. I'm getting into the "farm to table" and trying to buy as much food locally as possible. My husband has dreams of "living off the grid" in his words. Lol! Another question- Do I need to take the hens to a vet to get looked at yearly to ensure their good health?

You dont have to take them to the vet. But you can take stool samples in for testing.

I got a job today! I start tomorrow at 8am! Cant wait. I can start incubating more eggs again. LOL I really wanting to test out my cabinet incubator i built!
