Another Question!!! I feel like a first time mom again.

Today is the first day in the new coop, and I had to go out and put the girls back into the coop. They really were comfy all in a chicken pile in the run. Will they explore the roosting bars on their own, or do I need to put them up there for the first time? Right now they are in the coop on the bedding all snuggled up in a nice warm little chicken pile.

For those of you who keep ducks and geese, I wonder if they stay in your yard/area when they get older, or do you have to always keep them in a coop/run? I'd think once they got older they would fly away.

I made friends with a couple wild ducks a few years ago. I worked at Firestone, and when we opened the bay doors, they would swoop in the shop and crash land, then ask for some crackers. I was able to feed them out of my hand. They would follow me around and walk around the shop (I made them wear safety glasses lol).

My geese mostly have free range all day, and a pen for their safety at night or if we are gone. Same for my ducks, but they are a little more confined, not left out as late because they are good at hiding. All my birds put themselves up at night, usually.. I have one muscovy hen that hides on us all the time. My ducks can and do fly very well, but don't seem to want to leave. Stanley - The drake is too big n fat

. pretty sure she may have been egg bound since in vent was very swollen. she was a Columbian cross from my original flock, but on a higher note I set 42 eggs in the incubator last night. Hopefully, I get a good hatch out of these. I have twenty of my eggs going in and 22 eggs from my wife's uncle's flock of white rocks. Keep your fingers crossed.

Ugh sorry to hear it, but fingers crossed for a good hatch! I go on lockdown tomorrow for a good batch of eggs too!

I gave up my lil billy a few years back, I knew he went to a good home but he was such a cutie. He had a huge set of horns, and only thing that held him well was chain link. When he started terrorizing the neighbors kids it was time to relocate him. The kids had been giving him apples thru the wooden fence, and billy decided it wasn't often enough! So up and over he would go... Chasing the kids to the house. Then they didn't like him so much. With the hours I was working I couldn't stand the thought penning him,so we found him a home.
