"My Chickens Have Changed My LIfe"
I must tell you another "My Chickens Have Changed My LIfe" stories. I went to the doc today for a check-up and all of my blood tests, etc. were perfect, lost weight, and had my lowest cholesterol count ever! It's my chicken therapy! I go outside everyday despite the weather and do yard work with my flock for an average of three hours. It was especially good for me to get out every day in the winter.

What great news! Who said you need to go the gym to be healthy. It is amazing what a little activity can do for you.
It's great to have such noticable benefits from doing something you enjoy.

Good for you

Time lapse time!!!!!

If anyone else has any time lapse it would be cool to see the stages of different breeds. Mine are white leghorn red comet and nh red

1, 2ish weeks 2, 4-5 weeks 3, 6-8 weeks 4, 30ish weeks ands then some

Can you spot the Rooster in each of the photos... it is amazing how obvious it was at two weeks.

Bantams are wonderful and even easier to raise than large fowl: Less food, less room, less poop.

I can support my craving for "some of every breed' easier with bantams.

I used to only want the large birds and their more marketable eggs, but I have changed in the last several years.Though I still keep a layer flock of assorted big girls; Leghorns, Ameraucanas, Marans

Bantams lay a surprisingly large egg for their size. The bird may be 75% smaller but often the egg is just 50% (or less) smaller than the large fowl counterpart.

In my opinion, some bantam varieties are more attractive than the LF breed. Cochins and Brahmas for example. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I agree. I picked the bantams so I can have more for my space. Can be a bad thing... It is like chicken math divided in half because of size = more chickens

I don't have any time lapses of those particular breeds, but I have lots of pictures from when my blue splash Marans, speckled Sussex, and partridge Plymouth Rocks were growing up last year if you'd like to see them. :)

x2 The chicken math hits me double time with bantams, partly because they're half sized so I can have twice as many, but also partly because they're so cute and widdle and haf dose big eyes!! :love I actually did a completely chicken math type of thing when ordering my chicks this year. I have 32 hens, I wanted to make that total 40, so I ordered 9 chicks. But two are bantams, so they only count as half, right? Then again, five of those 32 hens are bantams as well...

RE Bantam egg size: I agree--those eggs don't reflect the size of those hens! I'm always amazed at how big my little Sebright girls' eggs are compared to their size! Poor babies!

Stressdmom:I am trying to breed my black Cochin bantams I dont know if her eggs are fertile or not I'm completely new to breeding

Yesterday me and my dad let out 25 of my chickens (my 23 big hens and my couple (Ms.May and Mr.Frizz)) they enjoyed the fresh cut grass and some cracked corn me and my dad are sitting on the porch tossing the corn out when he desides to toss it at me...most of the chickens come and started eating all the corn off me it hurt kinda but it was also funny .... sad thigh is sence Fluffy is a somewhat cripple chicken all the others are attacking her :( but Fluffy is alot sweeter ....Ms.May has no feathers around her crop is this good or bad??? Oh and yesterday Mr.Frizz protected Ms.May from the others and made them back up while she ate it was cute and I think my dad has 2 new chicken friends that he likes :) Blue was his favorite chicken but she died :( but he does like the couple and btw Ms.Mays foot is better and Mr.Frizzes butt is better too just hope his wing feathers get better and not so rough looking ...ill upload pic of my chickens and the ducks and geese I seen Saturday sorry for so much rambling

No i
Very nice!   Fainting goat!  I'm trying (not too hard at this point) to convince my wife that we need a couple of those.  How much room do they require?

Not sure I have a 5 acre pasture for him. I do know they require shorter fencing since their genetic defect discourages climbing and jumping. Mine faints every time he tries to jump so hog paneling contains him
