INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Turkey vultures are scavengers by nature. Your chickens should be fine. I assume there is a carcass somewhere near by they are after. If you live by some fields and they have recently tilled, there are going to be some recently shredded critters and that will be inviting to a vast number of vultures.
Quote: They normally only go after the dead stuff, I am still a lil leery of them...

Another quick question. Has anyone tried using a mini wind turbine or solar power for your coop?

I think that would be awesome, I have considered solar for them.

Quinstar needs to have a look inside your coop (she's nosey--haha) Please post interior photos anyone.
I have some inside the coop photos on my Profile page. My hens approved you viewing them.  : - )

I don't have many pictures of the inside of my coop, but there's a thread for that. ;) There haven't been any really recent posts, but there's 30+ pages and lots and lots of interior coop pictures: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/565476/interior-coop-pics

I'll probably be taking lots of coop pictures over the summer, as we're building on an addition to the coop. :D So stay tuned for that!

(Also, cool, this is my 2000th post! :celebrate )

This is exactly what I was looking for!!! And congrats on 2K!

I know exactly what you are going through. Not only has my bouvier gotten a couple chickens that had flown over the fence, but she also got ahold of my african grey parrot! I only blame myself as I forgot to lock him up when I left for work and he got startled by a perch falling down and flew off his playstand. I was heartbroken whrn I came home to find the lifeless body of my parrot.

Hopefully it wont happen again and if your close by id be more than happy to give you a couple week old buff/possible lemon cuckoo chicks. Obviously it wont repkace the birds you lost, but they are here if youd like them.
that's horrible! We also have an african grey. He doesn't get out often bc he bites. But I still love him and would be devistated if that happened to him!. And thank you for the offer but I live a good ways away but wouldn't feel right taking chicks from you either way. Plus I have eggs. In the incubator. They were due to hatch tomorrow but I have 2 chicks already and 4eggs with pips. I'm so excited!

And thank you all for understanding my broken heart and all your well wishes. I wanted to let you all no that as I type right now I have chicks hatching. My incubator is full of buff eggs and a few speckled jap eggs I put in for my aunt. This is only my 2 nd time incubating but everything looks good I have 2 chicks and a few eggs with pips. So excited! Btw can someone tell me how to get an avitar with the map please? Thank you all again!

Mother2Hens has been graciously helping to get them made for us! You can PM her, or I bet she will be on later

I have a solar powered security light. Works really well, super bright 32 (I think) LED panel. It comes on at dusk for a minute, then stays on dimly. Stays on all night. It has a motion detector, and gets super bright for 30 seconds, then returns to dim. At least this way, the racoons can see which chicken to eat. Picked it up at China Freight (Harbor Freight) for under $20, I really like it and am thinking about getting one for over the garage. You can use it indoors, as the solar panel has about a 10 foot cord to plug into the light. But serious solar/wind power, no.

I do have a human size door to walk into the run to access the coop for cleaning days. You're right about not many pictures inside the coop, I don't have any good ones and now it's raining, so it might be a few days before I get any.
