INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Holy cow, mosquitoes! Are they as thick everywhere else, or is it just us?! Stopped to check on an eggplant sprout and there was a cloud around me in an instant! I had at least a dozen of them flying around my flashlight as I counted the hens! It was like fighting a Hydra--kill one and three more appear! Geez, I had to ask my parents if I looked anemic!

...Okay, I'm done now. Just, wow!

Now that is funny, "Fighting a hydra". What a wonderful visual.

Just, wow!
Mosquitos are terrible here too! We quickly nixed the idea of marshmallows around a campfire tonight -- just wasn't worth getting bit up! We had a lot of barn swallows flying around last year that ate a lot of them -- haven't seen as many swallows this year -- wish they'd come back!

Well, you're probably joking here, but yes, yes I could.
While I think your hubby's reasoning for it is wrong, as long as there's nothing blocking them from getting underneath, they shouldn't lose any floorspace for that style of roost. My roost is ladder style and the girls hang out under there all the time. :) They even have dust baths in the sand if I've scooped out all the droppings.

1000

Thanks for the advice. I would love to have the roost with a counter under it to catch the droppings, but the girls are in their coop for the first time tonight. I didn't want to wait lol. If I find it doesn't work, I'll change it around one day when he's at work lol

Edited to add - nothing blocking off that area, it's open.

Ok, I figured I'd offer these here before going to Craigslist. I had plans to breed some of these, but between not hatching enough to get a good flock going and lack of space, I've decided to sell. If interested get in touch and we can work out prices.
2 salmon faverolle pullets
2 speckled Sussex pullets
2 brown leghorn pullets
2 russian orloff that appear to be pullets, but not 100% sure yet
1 white silkie that is still unsexed
Also considering selling 2 tolbunt polish chicks that are still unsexed
